Grab Your Chimichangas! Deadpool Returns In Avengers: Doomsday

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

There are few comic characters in the world more famous than Deadpool. After appearing in two highly successful films, the actor is making his official MCU debut Deadpool and Wolverinea smash hit that grossed over $1 billion at the box office. Since the huge success of that film, everyone has had the same question: when will we see the Merc With a Mouth on the screen again? Historically, Ryan Reynolds has played coy whenever he gets that question. But at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, he dropped a bombshell shaped like a chimichanga: Deadpool will appear Avengers: Doomsday!

Everyone knew that Marvel would be bringing big news and exclusive images to San Diego Comic-Con. What no one expected, however, was for Ryan Reynolds to show up. However, he took the stage in a different look: the gray Deadpool outfit made famous by Rick Remender's. Uncanny X-Force (seriously, go read it! You'll thank me later). Reynolds conveyed his character's dark humor by announcing that he would not be wearing the evil mask given to all attendees. “Long time listener, first time caller. I'm a big fan,” he said. “I'm not wearing a Doom mask over this mask because I don't want to ruin the lines of my Canadian tuxedo.”

He helped make the big announcement that Deadpool would appear in it Avengers: Doomsdayjoint movie that hits theaters on December 18. It didn't take long for someone to ask the obvious question: why does Thor cry? This refers to a Deadpool and Wolverine the scene where Deadpool sees himself in the MCU, where Thor mourns over his mutilated corpse. TVA tells Deadpool that this takes place “in the distant future.” When Reynolds got the question, Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd gave a blunt answer: “He's a Wrexham fan.” This is, of course, a professional football club that is part of Reynolds.

Aside from the announcement and some exciting on-stage stunts, there are no concrete details about what Deadpool will be up to Avengers: Doomsday or how much film he is in. Presumably, it will be one of Marvel's (to use Wade's phrase from his last film) “free cameos.” After all, the film already had 60 actors scheduled to appear before Reynolds was officially added to the cast. As for what he'll be doing in the movie, chances are he'll be fighting to prevent someone (according to the leak, possibly the X-Men) from blowing up the entire truth. After that, we'll probably see Thor crying over his injured (probably fatal) body.

While Avengers: Doomsday is already a blockbuster movie, it's still great to hear that Deadpool will be a part of it. Ryan Reynolds always gives the role “great effort,” and there hasn't been a bad Deadpool movie yet. If nothing else, the inclusion of his sarcastic character means that this loud, broody blockbuster will have some much-needed humor. But will we be laughing at Deadpool or crying next to Thor? We won't know until then Avengers: Doomsday will premiere in theaters on December 18.
