An Elden Ring Movie Should Focus On One Main Character To Be Good

By TeeJay Small | Published

For as long as video games have existed, studio executives have been pouring money into adapting bad video games. The same movies What is not written, Mortal Kombatand in 1993 Super Mario Bros they are widely known for defaming their sources, leaving fans wary of the whole genre. When do you remember? Assassin's Creed got a film adaptation back in 2016? Me too. So, when it is announced that i Elden Ring the movie was in the works, I just had my doubts.

I'm not saying that Elden Ring the film will fail. My concern has has has has been in the past, the source material is so vast, expansive, and extensive that it cannot be contained in a 2-3 hour film. The Lands Between cannot be tested in 160 hours for multiplayer, especially when you consider the DLC. Fortunately, I think there is one way to condense the material into one movie size, and still be able to please fans far and wide.

Focus on General Radahn

First, the Elden Ring the movie should focus on General Radahn as the main character. He's already been a fan favorite boss since the first game, and his backstory is arguably the most interesting part of the lore. In case you're not familiar with the source, Radahn is a man of the people, a decorated wartime leader, and a scholar tasked with studying gravity magic. Before the events of the video game begin, he becomes aware of a threat to the stars and uses his gravity abilities to single-handedly hold off an onslaught of meteorites and Lovecraftian alien invaders.

At the time of the crash, a thrilling incident that begins the narrative of Elden RingRadahn was challenged by her sister Malenia. The two meet in the open, where they and their forces engage in a gruesome battle for the family throne. When it became clear that their war had reached a stalemate, Malenia developed nuclear weapons, spreading a debilitating condition called the red rot throughout the region.

When the player character enters Middle-earth, Radahn is hanging by a thread. His mind and body are infected with a crimson rot, causing him to roam the battlefield as a shadow of his former self, devouring the corpses of those who were claimed by the war. The player then joins an event known as the Radahn Festival, where the champions try to put the demigod out of his misery, and give him a well-deserved hero's death. The boss fight against General Radahn is one of the best parts of the entire game, and usually requires the player to summon multiple NPC spawns to complete.

When Radahn finally vanishes, meteors descend on the middle lands, revealing that he still held them even in his weakened form, and did so while fighting hordes of possessed enemies. For my money, the story would end there, and I would walk out of the theater holding my ear. Obviously I'm leaving out a lot of important points, but those are the broad strokes.

Radahn's life story also has a complete three-step structure. I Elden Ring the film can open with his studies at the Sellia magic school, then switch to his battle with his sister, and then culminate with the Radahn festival. The final moments of the film could serve as a poignant reflection on his legacy and set up a sequel as the remaining heroes of Middle-earth continue their fight in the coming wars.

Currently, very little is known about the Elden Ring the movie. I hope they don't try to tackle the whole game and relegate Radahn to a footnote, but that's kind of what I expect. I do know that Nick Offerman is confirmed to be in the cast, and that he would make an ideal candidate to bring the Scarscourge general to life on the big screen. As the production continues, we are sure to receive important updates.
