In May 2026, Shomo made headlines when he came out as gay after endless online speculation about his sexuality.
“There has been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life as of late and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love. I am a proud man,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “This is something I've been putting out and thinking about in my life for a long time now. It's been difficult to look at the emotions associated with the topic and figure out what to do with this fact.”
He continued, “When it comes to my art/Beartsooth, I've been fighting to chase who I am from the depths of my soul from album to album. As you can gather if you've followed the band in the past years, there are 4 albums that are very self-denying about my religious upbringing, depression, hatred, and despair, feeling ashamed every time I feel ashamed. I couldn't allow myself to dig roots for so long.”

Caleb Shomo Was a Member of Attack Attack!
Shomo was part of the metalcore band Attack Attack!, which he left in 2012. When he left the group “in agreement” that he would continue to make music.
Caleb Shomo Has Been Open About Mental Health Issues
When you leave Attack Attack! In 2012, Shomo opened up about dealing with mental health issues.
“I have severe clinical depression and have for many years. As you may have heard from my talks that I've given over the last 6 months or so of my AA tour work I've been suicidal since middle school,” he said at the time, in part. “I've been struggling with an eating disorder, issues with my appearance since I was announced a few years ago, and drug abuse and various addictions for the past year or so. Having thousands of people tell you that you're a 'fat piece of s***' is not the easiest thing to deal with at the age of 17, and I can't think of a place.”
He continued, “I love all the guys who have been involved in AA. Great guys, very supportive too. Starting about a year ago I started having a mental breakdown. Panic attacks, mental breakdowns, isolating myself from the world for weeks at a time, writing crazy depressing songs, not very fun. I had a lot of stress or demons that I wanted to deal with in my life and I wanted to face myself and deal with it. As you can imagine this doesn't help at all.”

Shomo has been the lead singer of the band Beartooth since 2012, famous for writing songs for the band while he was a member of Attack Attack!. Beartooth has released five studio albums during his tenure, with the most recent – “The Surface” – dropping in 2023.

In March 2026, Shomo deleted his Instagram account after the band released their new song “Free.” At that time, Shomo began a new appearance that led the leading Atilla Chris Fronzak making homophobic speech. Fronzak apologized.

Caleb tied the knot with his wife, Fleur Shomoin 2012. Fleur shared her support for Caleb after he came out as gay in 2026.
“Our almost 14 years of marriage have been wonderful and full of fun, adventure and love. No one will know anything about our marriage like we do. And no one can truly know the depth of love that exists between two people unless they are those people,” he wrote, in part, on Instagram at the time. “I already miss you and my husband more than anything else. Our story was beautiful. Now it's over.”
He added, “I hope that anyone in the world who is going through this will find hope and courage and I hope that the fans can continue to support Caleb. In the meantime I will continue to focus on what I can control and continue to live my life trying to achieve what I want to achieve. And if I keep saying hello to as many dogs as possible along the way, I'm sure things will get better little by little, day by day, little by little, little by little.”
