Almost ten years later The Vampire Diaries ended, Nina Dobrev again Paul Wesley we meet again with a new program.
Former costars will produce and star on Hulu You Should Knowbased on the 2025 thriller of the same name by Aggie Blum Thompson. According to the official entry line, You Should Know “It follows three rural couples – next-door neighbors and their best friends. When one of their husbands is murdered, a trail of shocking secrets is revealed, and their friendship crumbles.”
Dobrev, 37, celebrated the news on Thursday, June 25, writing on Instagram, “I've been waiting to share this one. We loved this novel and helping to shape its adaptation from both sides of the camera has been so much fun.”
Before working together You Should KnowWesley, 43, and Dobrev stole the hearts of fans on The CW's The Vampire Diaries. The series, which aired from 2009 to 2017, centered on a love triangle between Elena (Dobrev) and her brother Stefan (Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
Dobrev and Wesley previously surprised fans by discussing their initial disagreement.
“Paul and I didn't get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn't like Paul Wesley,” Dobrev recalled on a 2019 episode of the “Directionally Challenged” podcast, which was hosted by former clients. Candice King again Kayla Ewell. “I remember everyone coming up to me after the show aired and being like, 'Are you and Paul dating in real life?' Everyone thought we had such good chemistry. Now I realize that there is a fine line between love and hate, and we despised each other so much that it read like love, but … we really didn't understand each other. [for] the first five months of shooting.”

Dobrev, who dated Somerhalder, now 47, from 2010 to 2013, ended up having a close relationship with Wesley.
“We finally got to the right place and it went well,” he concluded. “Of all the people, I think I probably see her the most and spend the most time with her. We're probably the closest. We spend the most time. We're really good friends. … It's so funny how time changes everything because I never thought she'd be one of my best friends.”
Wesley, for his part, had a similar feeling when he recalled the interesting approach he took to studying his chemistry with Dobrev – ignoring her before the audition.
“I had an idea. Nina, who was already leading, was there and everyone in that screening room during the show was kissing her asses because she was in the hallway. Everyone was going up to her to say hi. And I was like, 'F*** that. I'm not going to look her in the eye and I'm not going to introduce myself.' Michael Rosenbaum's “Inside of You” podcast episode.
The actor used Stefan and Elena's backstory in the pilot as inspiration.
“[I didn’t do that] because I was trying to be rude. But because at the scene, we should not know who else is.” “It should be a mystery. We were supposed to meet for the first time. We were supposed to see each other right away. And I thought, 'Well, f*** that. I want our time to be really special. I want to know at that time.'”
Wesley said Dobrev didn't see her well at first because of her acting style.
“Nina remembers this and I just remember her looking at me wanting to say hello and introduce herself, I just turned away, I think at first she thought, 'Who does this guy think he is?'” he continued. “But anyway, I went in there and I remember the interview and the first time we ever saw each other in real life was actually in that audition room. It was a very amazing moment. And I felt it. You felt it. [it] and I know all those studio executives heard it. And I think that's what got me involved.”
