The Ultimatum's Hayley Hendrich revealed how big the age gap is between him and David Atkinson resulted in them not working together in season 4.
“I think my experience with David would have been completely different and non-existent,” Hayley said to herself. Us. “There was a day we had – our last day – and that conversation made it clear what my decision was.”
Hayley confirmed that the incident “wasn't shown” when the Netflix original series premiered earlier this month.
“It was me and David, we were talking about what we like, what we don't like and what living together will look like.” But he kept talking about my age. “So I kept asking the question, 'Okay, what about my age?
After forming a relationship with David, Hayley was confused about her anxiety.
“I was trying to be curious about where he stands with 10 years. Admittedly, we are 10 years apart, but I personally did not feel that the person was a criminal,” he continued. “Because I didn't think that our maturity levels are completely different in terms of communication. Obviously, my communicationwas bad on the show, and I take full responsibility. But I am a good communicator.”
He concluded: “We just agreed on everything except age. That was the only thing. I was like, 'Okay, if that's something you can't get over then what is it.' I wasn't attracted to Killian [Grondin] in any way, shape or form, but I thought that he and I could build some kind of friendship living together, that's why I chose him.”
The Ultimatum follows real-life couples who enter into “trial” marriages with new connections before deciding whether they are ready to commit to their first partner. Hayley joined the show Blake Robertson and paired up with Killian before going back to her ex.

“After we got engaged, we moved in together and I wasn't settled when I got back. There were a lot of motivations so I don't feel like we really got to enjoy our engagement,” Hayley told us. “About the emotional side [of things] – at that time – I felt that I had been asking for it for so long that it no longer felt genuine to me. I was like, 'Okay, now you're doing it and I'm asking you for a year to meet my emotional needs.'
Hayley felt “really bad” at the time, adding, “She tried. It took a year, but she tried. I'm sad that I couldn't really sink that in. It was anger at the time. It was just not good. It really affected our relationship.”
After filming wrapped, Hayley and Blake ended their marriage.
“We broke up in September of 2025 and stayed together until the end of October when I got off my feet,” she explained. “At the meeting I was not closed. He and I have talked since we met. It has been going back and forth. Sometimes there is no closure and I accept that.”
