On the Monday, July 6, episode of his syndicated radio show, He's on the air with Ryan Seacresti American Idol The host revealed that she was actually invited to attend the A-list wedding but had to cancel after she was booked to host Disney's 250th anniversary of America on all of its networks, including ABC.
“Travis and Taylor are getting married. I had to hide it from you,” Seacrest, 51, told his co-stars on Monday's radio show. “It was a secret invitation to everyone who was invited. So when you made your reports about the wedding, I was just inside screaming, outside I was free.”
He explained, “I was RSVP'd to go, and then Disney hired me to do a 4th of July special for 250 on the 3rd and 4th, so I had to cancel.
One Seacrest host called the situation a “waste of an invitation,” while another said he should have done both.
“I was actually very happy. I was sad,” Seacrest admitted.
“Trust me, I went through the minutes. I couldn't do both,” he continued. “And the actual wedding was in the afternoon. But I was honored and very happy to be invited.”
Seacrest went on to reveal that he met Swift and Kelce, both 36, after receiving his invitation and confirmed that he was there in person, making his withdrawal all the more difficult.
“You know, the weird thing was, after I went to the wedding I saw them at dinner at the restaurant and we talked about the ceremony — because we didn't say that [wedding] out loud – and he was like, 'Oh, it's going to be so much fun. We will have the best time. It's going to be late,'” he remembered. I'm dying of joy.' I met Travis for the first time, actually. He was sitting in the booth next to me.”
“I said yes. I saw them a few weeks later to make sure. Should I cancel,” Seacrest added. “But I had no choice. It's part of my job at Disney to do these things.”
Although Seacrest was not among the 1,000 who celebrated Swift and Kelce's union at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3, the couple had a lot of strength in their marriage.
