The nightmare is officially back.
Earlier this month, Most Important Images announced that it was brand new A Nightmare on Elm Street the film is still being developed under its new horror label, Paramount Primal. This work is produced in collaboration with Places to stay in Wes Craven and will be based on Craven's 1984 screenplay, marking the franchise's first new theatrical chapter in more than 15 years.
With no director or cast announced, fans have started asking the biggest question of all:
Who should be the next Freddy Krueger?
No one will ever take over Robert Englundwhose performance helped make Freddy one of the most recognizable horror icons of all time. Instead, Paramount has the opportunity to introduce a new interpretation of the fantasy demon while honoring the legacy that made the character legendary.
Here are five actors we'd love to see play the role.
1. Bill Skarsgård
If there's one actor who has proven that he can reinvent the villain, it's Bill Skarsgård.
His memorable performance as Pennywise in the IT he demonstrated his ability to transform through subtle facial expressions, unconvincing body language, and an eerie sense of self-doubt. Rather than trying to imitate Robert Englund, Skarsgård could create a new version of Freddy that sounds terrifying to a whole new generation.

2. Jack O'Connell
Jack O'Connell might not be the first name fans think of, but that's why he's such an interesting choice.
Whether playing violent criminals or emotionally damaged antiheroes, O'Connell brings an intensity that feels authentic. He can portray Freddy as a not-so-sane person and a mind-bending nightmare that haunts victims long before the killing begins.

3. David Dastmalchian
Few actors have been as respected in the horror community as David Dastmalchian.
His works in films are similar Night with the Devil they have shown that they can balance attractiveness, vulnerability, and intractable threat all at the same time. Dastmalchian's unique voice and inherently intimidating screen presence would make for one of the most disappointing portrayals of Freddy Krueger yet.

4. Walton Goggins
Walton Goggins may be a wildcard on this list, but he has one key quality to Freddy Krueger: charisma.
Freddy doesn't just kill his victims he enjoys torturing them. Goggins has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to mix dark humor, horror, and unpredictability into every performance. That combination could make for a Freddy that is equal parts fun and scary.

5. Andy Serkis (Motion Capture)
Andy Serkis has built an impressive career delivering memorable characters through motion capture. From Gollumin the middle The Lord of the Rings to Caesar of Planet of the Apes trilogy again Supreme Leader Snoke of star Wars sequel trilogy, Serkis has shown time and time again that digital performance can be as emotionally powerful as traditional performance.
Rather than relying solely on realistic makeup, Paramount can use motion capture technology to create a Freddy Krueger whose movements feel unusually fluid, distorted, and dreamlike. Serkis' mastery of performance capture would allow Freddy to move in impossible ways that perfectly fit the nightmare environment, creating one of the most unique versions of the character ever seen on screen.

Paramount recently announced A Nightmare on Elm Street The film is still in the early stages of development, which means fans may have to wait a while before the actor officially stars as Freddy Krueger.
Whoever takes on the role will have big shoes or rather, a burnt fedora and bladed gloves to fill. Robert Englund's portrayal has defined the character for decades, but every horror icon is finally finding a new generation.
