New Movies on Netflix July 2026 – Here are my top 3 picks to stream

With tons of new movies and TV shows lined up and notable classics set to drop throughout the month, July is probably Netflix's best month yet.

Okay, I say it every month, but I really mean it this time.

In addition to highly anticipated shows like this one Little House on the Prairie start over again Ransom Canyon season 2, the broadcaster has lined up the best movies for you to watch in July.

You can stream the Ben Affleck happiness Gone Girl for now, but if you're watching it with your partner, be prepared for informal conversations after it's over.

Watch With Us also recommends two 2025 films making their Netflix debuts: the Oscar-winning drama. Hamnet with Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley again Joe Alwyn and the mystery of the French massacre Private Life with Jodie Foster.

'Gone Girl' (2014) – Streaming Now

Nick and Amy Dunne (Ben Affleck again Rosamund Pike) had a picture-perfect wedding, which is why it hurts those around them so much when Amy suddenly disappears one day. Their families and friends are grieving, but Nick, oddly enough, isn't crying – he doesn't cry and he doesn't seem as upset as he should be. Suspicions quickly arise – why is Nick so calm? Did he have anything to do with Amy's disappearance? And why did Amy keep a diary revealing her fear that Nick might kill her?

If you don't know Gone Girl's twist, that's just the tip of the iceberg. And when you do, you know that the movie gets even better on the second, third and fourth go. Directed by David Fincher, Gone Girl begins as a typical crime mystery that turns into something more: a portrait of a toxic marriage, an exposé of our need to believe in the myth of love rather than the reality of it and a shocking story about the unreasonable expectations men place on women to be perfect. That all sounds heavy, but the genius of the film comes from how fun and funny it is — and how well Pike plays the woman who knows exactly what she wants — and gets it.

'Hamnet' (2025) – July 6

In 1590s London, William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) is working hard on his next game when the bubonic plague strikes. It quickly spreads through the countryside and claims the life of his young son, Hamnet (Jacob Jupe). Will is worried, but his wife, Agnes (Jessie Buckley), is inconsolable. Although time passes and Will continues to develop his next play, Agnes is still living in the countryside, still dealing with her grief which seems to increase as she thinks more about her dead son.

A critical and commercial hit last year, Hamnet an emotional drama about how death affects the living and how losing a loved one can inspire different kinds of rebirth. Will deals with his grief by burying himself in his work. Agnes has no job to turn to, so she turns inward to deal with Hamnet's death and what it means for her marriage going forward. Buckley won the Best Actress Oscar for her devastating performance, and her final scene, when she finally comes to terms with her loss, is one for the ages.

'Private Lives' (2025) – July 29

July is the heart of summer, which usually means 4th of July fireworks, delicious BBQs and record-breaking heat waves. It also means a month full of great streaming content, at least on Netflix. The popular broadcaster is set to drop some of its most high-profile movies and TV shows in 2026, as well as classics like A. […]

Private Life it's an old-school mystery based more on character development than sinister plot twists. While the mystery is certainly intriguing, what's more interesting is seeing Lilian change as a character throughout the film. He starts off as a mess, but slowly gets his act together when he discovers that he is the only one who can find out who killed Paula and why. Foster doesn't do much, so it's always a gift when he does, too Private Life is one of his most entertaining films in decades.
