Ms. Rachel Defends Talking About Politics, Visits Detention Center

Children's entertainer Miss Rachel he answers his critics who ask why he is presumptuous in political matters.

“Hello! I have two master's degrees in education and 20 years of experience working with children. I am also a mother and was a public school teacher,” Ms. Rachel, 43, (born Rachel Griffin Accurso) wrote on Instagram Thursday, June 11. “Research shows that trauma can significantly affect brain development and well-being and I've seen those effects firsthand.”

The creator of children's content for YouTube and Netflix continued, “Child development professionals, teachers and parents should have a say in the processes that affect children. We know that supporting children helps them develop and makes communities stronger for everyone. I think people who care about children should have a say in how children are treated 🤷🏻‍♀️.”

The post of Ms. Rachel comes after visiting families connected to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainees at the Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, New Jersey, earlier this week.

After speaking with children who have lost their parents, Ms. Rachel was inspired to visit Washington, DC and campaign for changes to the immigration system and many detention centers.

“I'm in Washington, DC carrying 535 packages of letters written by children who are currently incarcerated or detained at the Dilley Immigration Detention Center. Today, every member of Congress will receive one,” he wrote on Instagram on Thursday. “Kids need to be in school and on the playground – not in a detention center! I'll let you know soon about my meetings with members of Congress! Please contact your member of Congress! It's very helpful. You can look back at this time in history and say you helped end family incarceration.”

A spokesman for the Department of Public Security denied the allegations of family separation, he said Fox News in the statement, “ICE does not separate families. Parents are asked if they want to be removed from their children or if ICE will place the children with a safe person chosen by the parent.”

The spokesperson added that DHS is “focused on protecting children and will continue to work with law enforcement, state and local agencies to reunite children with their families.”

Ms. Rachel said several politicians are making progress on reforming various detention facilities, including the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas.

“Congress Joaquin Castro circulating a letter to members of Congress TO SHUT DOWN DILLEY AND END FAMILY INFRINGEMENT!” he said with Instagram on Thursday. “Please urge your members of Congress to LET'S DO IT! Tag them here, call them, whatever you can do. … You're making history.”
