The University of Nebraska goes way back Make Nelson was arrested on Monday, June 29, after an alleged altercation with his pregnant girlfriend, according to arrest records Us Weekly. TMZ Sporthe was the first to report the news.
Nelson, 20, was booked on a charge of misdemeanor battery after police responded to a dispute at the Blue Flamingo Resort in Key West on Monday morning. He was charged with aggravated battery involving a pregnant woman and released on a $5,000 bond.
“The Nebraska Athletic Department and the football program are aware of Mekhi Nelson's arrest in Florida. We have no comment at this time,” the school's statement to KOLN said.
When authorities arrived at the scene, the woman – who said she was seven months pregnant with her second child with Nelson – said she and Nelson began arguing after the football player became upset about how long it was taking him to get ready.
He said he locked her out, but she opened the door when he knocked on it. He said he was worried that this incident would disrupt their stay at the resort, according to the police report received by Mr TMZ.
He then suspected that Nelson's anger was growing and he threw his phone across the room when he tried to call his mother. The woman then accused the athlete of ripping her bathing suit up and down and scratching her stomach. It is suspected that he returned with a chameleon on his thigh and said that this is not the first time that the two have been involved in an “incident”.
Nelson, however, told police a different story. He said the two started arguing about how another man, who lives with a child with this woman, was talking to her and his anger “seemed to burn.”
The report says Nelson cried on the way to prison, saying he was “just like” his father, who was arrested when Nelson was young.
An athlete on the Brigham Young University football team, Parker Kingston, has been arrested on a first-degree charge of rape, according to prosecutors. The case stems from an investigation that began last year involving a sexual assault report made by a 20-year-old woman, who shared with the police that she had been sexually assaulted. […]
Nelson is a redshirt sophomore for the Cornhuskers and is coming off a season in which he recorded 27 carries for 147 yards with two touchdowns. He also had eight receptions for 102 yards and was in contention for the starting job.
The highlight of his season came in the Las Vegas Bowl against Utah, where he recorded a 38-yard touchdown in a 44–22 loss.
Nelson is scheduled to appear in a Key West court on July 9 at 9 a.m
