Martha Stewart Shares a Touching Tribute to the Late Clive Davis

Martha Stewart he wrote to his late friend and “mentor” Clive Davis after his death at the age of 94.
“My dear friend, mentor and neighbor, invincible [SIC]tireless, amazing, talented, brilliant, Mister Clive Davis passed away today,” Stewart, 84, wrote on Instagram on Monday, June 22. “I will miss him very, very much. Not only did he give us some of the best musicians and their music for over a hundred years, he was the kindest, most considerate and caring person of all.”
He continued, “Over the years I attended many of his Grammy parties, his birthday parties, his dinners honoring his artists and friends but I also got to honor him through the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai. We will miss you Clive!!!!!”
Stewart was one of many to pay their respects to Davis following Monday's announcement that he had died at his Manhattan home. His death came just weeks after his publicist told TMZ in May that Davis “had an upper respiratory infection and out of an abundance of caution, he was admitted to the hospital.”
The music director has played an important role in directing the works of legends like these Whitney Houston, Barry Manilow, Bruce SpringsteenAerosmith and Aretha Franklinamong many others, throughout his 66 years of music. Davis won five Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
He is survived by four older children: he shared Fred Davis,66, and Lauren Davis64, with his first wife Helen Cohenand you are welcome Mitch Davis,56, and Doug Davis52, and second wife Janet Adelberg.
“To his family, Clive was Father and Grandson, a steadying presence at the center of our lives, a source of wisdom, strength, encouragement and unconditional love,” the Davis family said in a joint statement Monday. “No matter how amazing his career was, he never forgot what was most important: the people he loved.”
Their statement concluded, “Throughout all the chapters of his amazing life, the family has always been Clive's greatest pride and deepest joy. Today, we celebrate not just a great man whose influence changed music forever, but a man who led our family with grace, generosity, and kindness. We will miss him dearly, cherish him always, and carry his love with us for the rest of our lives.”

“Here at E Street, we are mourning the passing of a great man and close friend, Clive Davis,” Springsteen wrote on Instagram. “When I was 22 years old, he changed my life when he signed me to Columbia Records. He treated me with the respect and kindness that a 22-year-old never saw after all my success. A great man. All our prayers and love.”
Manilow, 83, added, “I am heartbroken over the loss of my friend Clive Davis. For 50 years, we worked together, built together, argued together and celebrated together. Yes, some would say it was business. But for Clive, it wasn't. It was family. And I was honored to be a part of him.”
