Former child actor Mara Wilson considers the possible sequence of his two biggest hits: Matilda again Mrs. Doubtfire.
Wilson, 38, played Matilda early Danny DeVitoThe 1996 amendment of the Roald Dahla beloved children's novel, which has been turned into a hit musical.
The actor recently appeared at the Fanboy Expo Knoxville in Tennessee on July 12, where he said he's already thinking about what could be. Matilda a sequel may be in sight.
“People always ask me about doing a Matilda 2. And that's possible,” Wilson said People. But one thing people always say is, 'Oh, maybe it could be [about] Matilda's daughter.' And I have problems with that, because I think Matilda's strength comes from her difficulty.”
He continued, “They come from bad things that she went through, and the whole point is that she overcame these things. And she found strength in teaching herself and making friends with these really lovely people … And so I don't think Matilda could have raised her daughter to be in a situation where she developed that strength to protect herself.”
“Also, and this is a difficult question, but who will Matilda marry? Who is right for Matilda?” Wilson added. “Matilda is such a beautiful character that I can't imagine who she will marry and have children with, you know?”
Wilson also acted alongside the deceased Robin Williams in 1993's hit comedy Mrs. Doubtfireplaying Daniel Williams' youngest daughter and Sally Fieldby Miranda Hillard.
At the same meeting, Wilson, who has transitioned to writing and directing as an adult, shared that he was against returning to the sequel after the film was a box office hit.
At the time, he said he told People “it's because sequels are bad,” adding, “And I think at the time, reboots and these things weren't going well.”
However, Wilson also had a personal reason for not wanting to play in another one Mrs. Doubtfire the movie.
“I'm a very anxious person… sometimes fans get disappointed by people. So it's like trying to please everyone all the time,” he said. “So the pressure of being in the movie and, I just thought, I can't do that. I'm too scared to do that.”
“I think we've seen the best reboots in maybe 10 years, but at the time, we weren't sure it was going to be good, and I was very scared to be on camera again,” Wilson continued. That's why I don't want to be a part of that. It was actually just my personal concern.
After Williams' death in 2014, Wilson added, “I don't know now if they can Mrs. Doubtfire 2 except for Robin, you know?”
