Kody Funderburk's Wife Was Diagnosed With Cancer While Pregnant

In a series of social media posts shared on Saturday, April 25, by X by the Minnesota Twins, where Kody recently joined after taking maternity leave on April 20 for the birth of daughter Murphy Jo, Alicia's health journey was detailed.
“Fundy is back on the Dad list but we want to take a moment to share more about his story with his wife,” the post began, sharing a photo of Kody, 29, standing next to pregnant Alicia with a scarf tied around her head. A second post shared another photo of pregnant Alicia, this time in a hospital chair.
“While pregnant, Alicia, Kody's wife, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma,” the photo said. “After continued chemotherapy, doctors are hopeful that he will make a full recovery.”
In accordance with Mayo ClinicHodgkin lymphoma is “a cancer that affects the lymphatic system” and is “highly treatable and often curable,” with treatments including “chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplants … and clinical trials.”
The group's announcement comes after Alicia shared her diagnosis on her Instagram account on April 15, five days before Murphy's arrival. “A quick little photo and life update from the past few months…From pregnancy to being diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, life has been amazing lately,” she captioned the photos, which include those shared by her husband's MLB team. “Although this time of life has not looked the way we thought, Kody and I are very grateful for the love, prayers and support around us.
The post also commented on her excitement to welcome Murphy into the world. “Baby Fundy is already a big hit (and apparently already likes to keep things fun). We can't wait to meet them in a few days!❤️,” she wrote at the time.
The twins had announced Murphy's arrival with a supercharged X, sharing in another post, “Baby Fundy arrived Monday, April 20th – a healthy baby girl, Murphy Jo. Both Alicia and Murphy are doing great!”
The team continued, “We are encouraged by the energy and optimism shown by the Funderburks. We wish them the best and continue to support them on and off the field.”
Kody, who was drafted by Dallas Baptist University in 2018 and will make his MLB debut in 2023, said. St. Paul Pioneer Press in the April 19 interview when the cancer was caught “early,” an action plan began immediately.
“It was about, 'Okay, what do we have to do?'” the athlete said at the time. “It's like how baseball is, you just get into your plan, 'OK, what's next? OK, go do that. What's next? OK, let's do that.'”
