Kids Today Won't Understand Waking Up To This Commercial At 2 AM

Everyone who lived through the 90s had the same experience. You were watching Rhonda Shear's up all night movie, or play Final dream 7lie on the sofa and hold the remote. You wake up a little around 2 AM, and on TV, advertising means you've made a terrible mistake: Pure Spirits. Wondering where you are while the opening of Enigma's “Return to Innocence,” or Enya's “Orinoco Flow” (aka “Sail Away Sail Away Sail Away”) blasts you for 30 seconds was a rite of passage. Kids today don't know what those direct-to-order CD commercials were like, and they're missing out on royalty Pure Spirits.
New Age Wake Up Call
Back in the day, before streaming music, companies would put together oddball compilation CDs and sell them directly from a phone number you could call. Markets all follow the same pattern. A scrolling list of songs on the album and currently playing is highlighted in yellow as it passes, along with a clip of the music video or, if applicable Pure Spiritsa relaxing scene from the videos dentists played in their office. Rock Monsters, Classical Thunder, Great Love Balladsthey all follow the same playbook.
Pure Spirits hit the airwaves in 1994 and turned New Age music into an overnight success. Commercial airing where ad rates were so cheap meant saving a ton of money, and they went straight to a sleepy, irritated, gullible audience who heard about Vengelis' “Chariots of Fire” and thought, “This is pure fire.” A re-release in 1997, with an updated track listing including “The X-Files Theme (DADO Paranormal Activity Remix)” was even more successful. It's surprising, but cool and memorable, and besides, in 1997, who didn't like it X files?
If you were just awake when i Pure Spirits commercial hit, it was a sleep sign. Back in the 90s, television had an end. The stations didn't play content 24/7, usually, after the last late-night show signed off there would be one or two infomercials, or a local access show from a broadcast affiliate, or if you were lucky enough to be in Philadelphia or New York, ECW Hardcore Television. After that, the channel will go black and all you can see is static TV until it starts again around 6 or 7 AM. Pure Spirits blowing the wind was a sign.
A Short American Love Story Direct Order CDs

The success of the first two volumes of Pure Spirits it led to the Virgin music company releasing more than a dozen more Emotions integration, incl Cinematic Situations, Love Situationsand two unexpected breakout hits, Gregorian Mods again Celtic conditions. For a short time, America was obsessed with the singing of the monk Gregory, and then River Danceand you know, there's really no explanation for any other reason than the reason that each child wants Crossfirethose ads were very effective.
Streaming has changed the landscape of television and now, you don't get crappy CD commercials. You can open Spotify. YouTube, or Apple Music and get micro-targeted AI playlists of everything from “Men Who Move In Silence” with cover art released The Peaky Blinders or “Music to Heal Your Heart After Leaving School” featuring the Polynesian ocean. The magic of catching snippets of songs that pop into your head and make you try a new kind of music is over. I say that as someone who will publicly admit that it is his Pure Spirits, Classical Thunderagain Rock Monsters. Laugh all you want at the New Age song of the 90s, but that album flopped.
