Does Tracker's Season 3 Finale Hit Hint At Cast Exit? Conclusion Defined
Season 3 of Tracker it ended – but was there another surprising way out?
On Sunday, May 24, the finale, Colter (Justin Hartley) and Russell (Jensen Ackles) celebrate their father's history. The episode ended with Russell agreeing to do a suspicious – and questionable – job in order to not find out about his father's whereabouts. He was on the phone with Reenie (Fiona Rene) where he indicated that he would be gone for a while, but did not reveal Colter.
The season ended on a positive note after facing many changes earlier. The hit CBS series, which premiered in February 2024, introduces fictional survivor Colter as he travels the country to help solve missing persons cases. The ensemble cast grew up with characters like Teddi (Robin Weigert) and Velma (Abby McEnany), Bobby the shooter (Eric Grise) and lawyer Reenie.
Weigert's character was canceled and McEnany and Grise soon followed.
“I think it's revolutionary. If I can change those characters — Randy or Reenie or Bobby — it's not just people who pick up the phone and say, 'Okay, here's the answer.' That's where the show comes in,” executive producer Elwood Reid told Us Weekly exclusively in May 2025. That's the show's challenge to stay out of the mold.”
Reid noted that they didn't want to Tracker to “feel comfortable.”
“The rule that I really have for the show is that every week Colter will come to a new place and there will be a new case. How he gets those answers and how he uses them on the team, that's all something that has to be caught,” Reid teased. “Meeting these people [local] unusual characters is something we will try to do more of as the season goes on. Colter enters and joins the other characters. It's great to see Justin stretch those muscles and the guest cast is really good.”
Recently, Reid weighed in on the on-screen changes. “What we see is that there are actors who come and if it works, we will bring them back,” he said. Us December 2025. “I think the show won't always do that. But when it does, it makes the world feel a little more connected.”
Reid noted that there was only one game going on: Hartley's favorite character.
“The audience depends because they've seen that character before. But I think they still think that the central DNA of the show is Colter. With this guy, what makes him likable is that he's a mystery to him,” he added. “He is an enigma to the audience. We see him in his spare time piecing together pieces of his past.”
He concluded: “I don't know if we'll ever get it all together, but he's going to struggle to keep doing that. That's just how we've thought about it. The biggest improvement we've made this year – in my opinion – was getting people in the same room. That's just connected, I think the audience enjoys seeing their characters in the same physical place.”
