Daveigh Chase's Father Speaks Positively of the Actor's Cause of Death

Schwallier said The California Post on Monday, June 29, that Chase's cause of death was “not surprising,” adding that “it is what it is” and that “it's something you have to expect sometimes with the way he lived.”

Schwallier shared that Chase's cremated remains went to her mother, Cathy, and she hadn't seen her daughter since she was about 6 years old. However, Schwallier said they talked on the phone when he was young.

His father added that he will pursue legal action to recover more of Chase's remains, with the goal of placing them in a handmade casket at his home in the Philippines.

“I had a feeling of emptiness inside because of not being with him all these years,” he said.

Chase died earlier this month at the age of 35. Us Weekly it was exclusively confirmed on Monday by the medical examiner in Los Angeles that the actor died of immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other important conditions including chronic polysubstance use.

Chase's boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, confirmed her death to TMZ earlier this month and shared that she died after battling meningitis and a blood infection that led to sepsis. Before Chase's death, Hernandez created a GoFundMe and opened up about his health journey.

“Daveigh Chase, my girlfriend, has always been the light of my life. Lilo & Stitch, Spirited Away again Donnie Darkobut behind the scenes, he has faced more than his fair share of hardships,” she wrote in the fundraiser's caption: “After a difficult upbringing and painful conflicts with his family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in the city of LA. When we met, I promised to protect him and give him the love and comfort he deserves. Together, we found moments of joy and hope.”

Hernandez shared that Chase was “recently diagnosed” with meningitis and has been battling “several blood infections.”

“His condition is critical, and the doctors told me that he may not have much time left,” he continued. He just wanted a place to stay together, feel safe and happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give him that sense of home and peace in his last days.

He continued, “I understand that we are all going through things, but if you can help, I would be very grateful for anything. And if you can offer a prayer, I will also take it. Thank you for considering helping us in this difficult time.”
