Batman's Most Sympathetic Villain Comes to Life in Official Clayface Trailer

Part of what makes Batman's rogues gallery so compelling is that many of the bad guys in it are incredibly sympathetic. Mr. Freeze is not a typical sci-fi villain, for example; he is a man on a mission to save his terminally ill wife. Two-face was not born as a monster; instead, a terrible change was forced upon him, breaking his mind. Unless you're watching Batman: The Animated Serieshowever, you may not realize who the most sympathetic villain is: Clayface. Once a movie star, she suffered a breakdown and accepted a drastic treatment to restore her good looks. Unfortunately, everything went wrong, and his mind accepted the fear that his body had turned.
Surprisingly, James Gunn decided to be alone Clayface The movie is supposed to be the third movie in the DCU. Obviously, it's a bold move to make a Batman villain movie without Batman, and many fans are questioning whether the Superman director went too far. Apparently, there's a method to Gunn's madness: the official trailer for Clayface gives us our best look yet at the first true DC horror film. With captivating gameplay and terrifying body horror, this trailer promises to deliver all the horror that comic book fans can handle.
Definitely Eat BEFORE Watching the Trailer
I Clayface the trailer reveals a slightly altered origin story for main character Matt Hagen. Instead of being an established actor, he is a young, up-and-coming actor with his entire career ahead of him. Instead of being injured in a car accident like this Batman: The Animated Seriesis attacked by a local crime boss that leaves the character's beautiful face scarred and deformed. Hagen contacts a scientist who is working on an experimental procedure that could restore his famous face. At first, it works; however, it doesn't take long for his body to begin to deteriorate, turning Gotham's latest villain into its latest supervillain.
The trailer is very strong and will go a long way in restoring the faith of fans who are worried about the failure of Supergirl. Previously, those fans were asking the obvious question: if DC had such trouble creating a successful superhero movie (something they had done many times before), how bad could their first horror movie be? However, this trailer hints at an ambitious, well-crafted movie that might be overlooked. It looks so good, in fact, that we can forgive some of its many elements, such as including a terrible, stripped-down version of a popular song (“Can You See??” With Flaming Lips).
A Murderer Leading a Man
What makes a good trailer? Among other things, Clayface lead actor Tom Rhys Harries does an amazing job as the main character. His passion is palpable, and he really sells the idea that this rising star is in over his head at all times. That helps make Clayface a more sympathetic character, of course: like other real-life gangsters, this fictional character is a victim of circumstances beyond his control. Furthermore, the road to his hell is paved with actions most of us can take in his place, including taking drastic measures to restore his old life.
Besides Harries' good performance, the best thing about this Clayface the trailer is how it relies entirely on body horror. Now, these types of horror aren't for everyone, but if you like a David Cronenberg movie, you'll love what you see here. The shots of our character's scarred face are truly stunning, and it's hard not to wince in emotional pain as you watch his body shrivel and transform. However, the terrifying climax is when his eyes begin to be covered by his skin. Trust yourself: you'll cry in your hand when you see him blow up the scissors!
Body Horror Is Back On The Menu, Guys
Concerts, music, and crazy special effects come together to create an unsettling vibe. Gotham's beauty is one of attractive decay, which carries a multitude of colors Batman Forever and the evil darkness of The Joker. The horror soundtrack does its job to keep you on the edge of your seat as you await the revelation of each new scare. I Clayface The trailer is pretty scary: you can't look away, as you know everything is going to get worse for every single person you see on the screen.
Obviously, this is a trailer, and its good editing doesn't mean the movie will be good (remember, Supergirl they had solid trailers, too). However, this is a movie I've believed in since I heard that horror writer Mike Flanagan was writing the script. Looking at the trailer, that faith has been rewarded, as the whole movie looks as shocking and unpleasant as I hoped it would be. Will the final film live up to this trailer and general hype? When will we find out Clayface will hit theaters on October 23.
