Amazon's Latest Ghost in the Shell Anime Goes Straight to the 90s in the Best Way Possible

When I heard that Amazon was relaunching Ghost in the Shell in the other thread, I'll be honest, I was scared. Two movies, and season 1 of Stand Alone Complex some of the best anime of all time. The 2017 live-action movie with Scarlett Johansson and the Netflix series are probably not that good. In 2026 Ghost in the Shell The remake is, if it carries this level of quality beyond the first episode, the most faithful adaptation of the manga yet.
A Remake and Not a Reimagining
Ghost in the Shell. first published from 1989 to 1991 by Masamune Shirow, it is one of the most influential cyberpunk works ever created. The concept of “ghosts” and philosophical ideas about transhumanism suggested more than a simple story of action. Every adaptation of the series has used it as a building block to tell a different story in the world, which is why the latest version of 2026 continues.
First of all, Major Motoko Kusanagi is much better than in the previous update. He talks a lot, plays pranks like an idiot, and is a lot more easygoing than the usual very serious, cold and calculating personality he's often portrayed as.
