Amazon Cancels New Stargate Series For One Reason No Sci-Fi Fan Wants To Hear

Last fall, long-suffering Stargate fans were finally able to celebrate with the grand announcement that the franchise's writer and director Martin Gero would be helming a new revival series on Amazon Prime. On June 2, nearly 10 months later, Amazon pulled the plug and canceled the entire series. Nothing has been said publicly, but various news outlets, including Variety and Deadline, have been putting together the pieces of the puzzle and as of now, it looks like Amazon has decided to hijack the show for hardcore sci-fi fans because it was created to appeal to fans of…hardcore sci-fi.

By the fans, for the fans

Details of Gero's plan for the series, where it will be set, what the future of the franchise is, and how it will tie in with the other three Stargate games, have never been made public. What fans now know is that the idea for the show was allegedly not a good fit for Amazon. That news came after this series was written. It's not uncommon for a show to be canceled in lieu of being retooled to better suit the network, meaning the differences should have been considered irreconcilable.

On the face of it, this sounds like the new Stargate was built for its fans Stargate SG-1. The same die-hard fanbase that has kept the franchise alive for more than 30 years, filling up countless conventions each year, buying the best-selling novels, binging. Atlantis again The atmosphereand they think “Worhole X-Treme” is one of the best episodes of any sci-fi series. That should be the target audience and not a reason to cancel the series.

Sci-fi fans will never outgrow the audience Shortcutbut remember that Amazon also produces It falls again Invincibletwo niche genre shows. This is the same company that saved The atmosphereone of the biggest sci-fi shows of the last 15 years, since cancellation. However, early reporting is why Amazon decided to disappoint Stargate fans once again with another tease of the revival.

Stargate Fans Are Used To Disappointment

Stargate SG-1 again Stargate Atlantis they never produced the same numbers as Star Trek, but they were good enough to stay on the air long enough for 15 seasons and over 300 episodes between the two. The Stargate Universethe most recent series in 2009, only lasted two seasons due to network disruptions. It has since been discovered by Stargate fans as a hidden gem. The fans want the Destiny team back, not the backstage production drama.

Once again, Stargate fans will go to sleep disappointed. It's something we've become accustomed to over the past decade. Maybe one day Amazon will see the potential of developing a fan show, which it has done again, both It falls again Invincible. Then again, since the revival announcement took place, the revolving door of Amazon's C-suite has led to the departure of many of the executives who lit Martin Gero's vision in the first place. Stargate Command's main enemy isn't the Goa'uld, the entertainment bosses are willing to give sci-fi a chance.

For those who did not donate Stargate SG-1 chance, it's a good time to see why it's a classic, with the entire series now streaming on Netflix.
