Rosie O'Donnell has a new theory about why she and President Donald Trump have never gotten along.
O'Donnell, who recently returned to the US after moving to Ireland after Trump won the 2024 presidency, said their 20-year feud has lasted, at least in part, because of their common roots.
“There are many comedians who have said things about him, but I come from the same place he came from,” said Variety. She and Trump were born and raised in New York, and O'Donnell said people have told her they sound alike, “which is probably the worst thing you can say to me.”

He continued, “But I think I'm one of those tough girls in middle school and junior high who said to him, 'Shut up! You're not kidding us. Get out of here, you idiot!' And he didn't go through with it. I think I cause him as a PTSD response to all his failures in his life as a child. “
He revealed that he reminds Trump of “girls who say, 'You're nothing,' and it scares him.”
O'Donnell made similar comments this week on Sophia Bush's “Work in Progress” podcast. When Bush said Trump was “obsessed” with her, she agreed, and said she “grew up with girls like me — tough, gay Irish girls who didn't take s — from a stupid rich boy who wanted.”

“He's obsessed and it's feeding his spirit,” said another person.
One X user wrote, “He started the whole thing with Trump and pretending to be the victim. Those left wingers are the biggest hypocrites walking the earth.”

The decades-long feud between O'Donnell and Trump dates back to 2006 after O'Donnell criticized him on “The View” for his decision to sideline the US victor who had been accused of drug use and other misconduct.
O'Donnell, who was the host of “The View” at the time, said Trump is “not a self-made man” but a “snake oil salesman on 'Little House On The Prairie.'”
Trump responded to the criticism by calling O'Donnell a “real brute” and an “out of control woman.”

The two continued to trade barbs over the years, and in 2025, O'Donnell admitted he couldn't resist talking about himself.
She told the Washington Post that she promised her therapist the Wednesday before Thanksgiving that she would stop posting about Trump for two days.
It fell within a few hours.
