So What About Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings?

Could Dylan Larkin's situation be reversed in Detroit?
Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press appeared on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio on Wednesday and was asked about the Dylan Larkin trade situation and whether things have changed now with the news that Steve Yzerman is stepping down as GM.

Who Will Replace Steve Yzerman in Detroit as General Manager?
Host: “How much, and people are going to ask, and they're going to connect the dots, and you understand the question. How much does Dylan Larkin's part play into this? Or if it doesn't, like you talked about earlier, whoever comes in is going to have to fix that situation, right?”
Helene St. James: “Well, it's a bad look for the whole organization. But honestly, I mean, Dylan. I mean, he's the one who asked for the trade, and he had a great Olympics. I've never seen him happier than that Sunday when they won in Milano. And he's like, “This is the best feeling I've ever had on skates. But he could return to Detroit. He did not put that team in the finals. I mean, part of that blame is on him. So I think it's unfortunate. I don't know if this can be done. It's been two months, and I don't know if they can pull off the miracle of (Zach) Werekenski (Don) Waddell.”
Is the best way for the Red Wings to solve the Dylan Larkin situation internally?
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman was on Wednesday's episode of NHL Tonight on the NHL Network. There, he was asked about Dylan Larkin and whether there was any way he could now stay in Detroit.

The timing of Steve Yzerman's announcement in Detroit is odd
Tony Luftman: “On the subject of the plot, when the '08 Wings won their trophy, and they had a show on one of those sidewalks, cheering as they passed, it was Dylan Larkin, who would be Dylan Larkin and wear a C, and no one understands or appreciates that franchise, that much history. However, things have clearly come together and what Yzelan wants to say between himself and Larkin? This latest development where Steve Yzerman stepping aside.”
Elliotte Friedman: “The short answer, Tony, is that it has to be decided, and I think it's a big question because I think it's one of the big questions.” One that I really like, Tony, is that you can trade your problem, or you can solve your problem, and it's always easier to solve your problem.
And we got to a point where, with Dylan Larkin, he and they felt like it was time to trade this problem. Maybe it will be different now. I think that's an open question now. We go to broadcasting school, Tony, there are open questions and there are closed questions.
Detroit Red Wings Face Important Summer Amid Larkin Drama
That's an open question, but at least, Tony, I see a world where somebody comes in and takes this job and says, “I want to sit down with Dylan Larkin and see if I can change his mind, and maybe you can sell him on a different plan.
But I think at the moment that is not certain yet. Like I think Larkin would like to keep a low profile, and I can't blame them. But I have to think at some point that whoever takes this job is going to want an opportunity to talk to him and say, “Okay, this is a new way. This is a new world. Is there a way we can solve this problem internally?
Because I think about the Red Wings, that's the best way.”
