For better or worse, the DCU has been taking the time to give secondary characters their own projects. That's right Supergirl again Clayface they got their own movies, and James Gunn just greenlit a TV show with Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd. That's a very different approach than the MCU, whose success has historically been built around main characters like Iron Man and Captain America. However, to combat hero fatigue, Marvel has been trying new things lately, including giving away a movie Thunder Lightsa type of universal B group. Now, it seems, they're going ahead and offering a a lot an obscure character in his own film.
That character is Nova; he is part of the Nova Corps, which first appeared on screen Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. Many Marvel fans thought we'd get a Nova solo movie soon, but ten years later, there hasn't been a movie. Speaking of Gunn's beloved film, there is a significant possibility that the Nova actress will play a major role in the upcoming GOTG films.
While all of this is exciting, it is worth emphasizing that Nova has never had an official green light, let alone a release date. If this film can get approval from Kevin Feige, it will probably be after that Avengers: Secret Wars reboots the MCU at the end of 2027. That reboot is meant to give new life to Marvel, making for new characters and new adventures. Given the large role the Nova Corps played in it Guardians of the Galaxy and how important these characters have been to comics for over half a century, we hope to see a big screen release that does this underrated character justice!
