'Alien 3' (1992)

Following the events of Aliens, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) the crash of a planet called Fiorina 161, inhabited only by criminals and security guards. Ripley learns that he is the sole survivor of the crash, and both Cpl. Hicks (Michael Biehn) and Newt (Carrie Henn) are dead. Unfortunately, they weren't the only ones on board, and the facehugger has already found its next victim in the prisoner's pet dog Fiorina. Initially facing skepticism from inmates and guards, it's once again up to Ripley to defeat the Xenomorph killing machine before it kills everyone – and this time, he's unarmed.

The alien 3 it was Seven again Social Network the director's first film, and unfortunately for Fincher, he entered the world of feature directing by crying. The film endured a troubled production and was subsequently marred by studio disruptions, and while Fincher had long denied the film, the “Assembly Cut” made without his involvement, based on his editing notes, was assembled and received very warmly. That version was just added to the HBO Max library this month, and we suggest you stream it instead of the theatrical cut.

'Real Magic' (1998)

Sister Sally (Sandra Bullockand Gillian (Nicole Kidman) Owens comes from a long line of witches, though they are cursed to kill any man who falls in love with them. As adults, they almost completely reject magic, but when Sally accidentally kills Gillian's dangerous boyfriend Jimmy (Goran Visnjic), they unwittingly make him an evil spirit determined to take revenge. The Owens sisters soon realize that they will have to prepare strong magic and embrace their lineage in order to conquer Jimmy's spirit and finally fall in love with the men they deserve.

Practical Magic it was not well received by critics upon release, who found the mishmash of genres – supernatural fantasy, domestic abuse melodrama, crime procedural and rom-com – disconcerting. However, the film has since gained a devoted following, strong enough to make a sequel, Virtual Magic 2which is scheduled to be released in September of this year. Practical Magic it has been hailed for its focus on strong relationships between women and the way it weaves dark, challenging themes into a traditional fantasy film, themes that have ultimately been crucial in allowing the movie to endure as a crowd favorite.

“Out of the Past” (1947)

This classic film noir stars Old Hollywood greats Robert Mitchum, Kirk Douglas again Jane Greer. Out of the Past follows Mitchum's Jeff Bailey, a humble gas station owner who finds him when he is spotted by con man Joe Stephanos (Paul Valentine). Years ago, Stephanos' boss, Whit Sterling (Douglas) hired Bailey to track down his ex-girlfriend, Kathie (Greer), who shot him and broke up with him for 40 grand. Instead, Bailey and Kathie fell in love – Kathie then double-crossed and returned to Sterling. Now, Sterling has a score to settle with Bailey.

Out of the Past it's a true American noir, with a haunting femme fatale, shadowy cinematography, a twisted crime plot full of betrayal and a bleak ending. Mitchum and Douglas make themselves Hollywood titans in their separate, terrifying roles, and Greer's and Kathie's badass is absolutely magnetic. The moody, harrowing film sustains a dream-like quality that lulls the audience into a false sense of security, before waking you up with its tragic ending. While the plot is a little tricky to follow, Jacques TourneurJehovah's guidance keeps things interesting.
