President Donald Trump marked the day before America's 250th birthday with his patriotic speech at Mount Rushmore on Friday, declaring the United States “the most unique nation that ever existed” and vowing to “not be a Communist country.”

Speaking beneath granite statues of four of his predecessors – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt – Trump highlighted America's uniqueness as 250th anniversary celebrations took place across the country.

“In all the history of the ages, no nation has ever celebrated a victory like this,” Trump told the crowd.

“At 250 years, America is the oldest republic in the world,” he continued. “We are the freest people in the world. We have the fairest and most lasting Constitution in the world. We are the strongest and most powerful nation in the world. And by the grace of God, the United States of America is the most successful, the most accomplished, the most unique nation that has ever existed in the history of mankind.”

Trump highly praised the nation's history and said that no other country has achieved as much as America.

“The birth and survival of the American nation under God is, quite simply, the best and most incredible thing that has ever happened to this earth by the hands of man,” he said. “No other country has done more good in this world than the United States of America.”

Before Trump took the stage, the new Air Force One flew over Mount Rushmore as spectators cheered. After his remarks, the president stayed to watch the fireworks in the Black Hills.

Trump said the country was facing what he described as a growing communist movement seeking to undermine America's “unique character” and “separate it from our history.”

The president said the organization raised the question, “What does it mean to be an American?”

Trump described Communism as the “biggest threat” facing the United States.

“It is the greatest threat to our country, including World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or 9/11,” Trump said. “We will not allow this to happen to us. Believe me, we will not allow it to happen, because communism is the enemy of free people.”

“Communism is the exact opposite of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—death, tyranny, and the pursuit of evil,” he continued.

“But we will not let them win,” he added. “They don't stand a chance against us.”

Trump issued a clear directive: “You can be loyal to Karl Marx, or you can be loyal to America. You can be a communist, or you can be a patriot. You can't be both.”

As Americans faced those decisions, Trump pointed to the nation's past sacrifices as a guide to its future.

“Our American ancestors did not shed their blood in Concord and Trenton, Gettysburg and Shiloh, Midway and Normandy, just so that a band of thieves, extremists and madmen could come in to rob and destroy our nation,” he said.

Trump also highlighted the four presidents carved on the mountain behind him, saying they represent the ideals of the founding of America.

“They were hard-working men, ambitious men, brave men, men of the future, and really smart men,” he said. “Above all, they were the great men of history. Tonight, on the threshold of our 250th year, we stand under the monument of these heroes, a true group of incredible people. And we rededicate ourselves to being a great, brave, honorable, and great nation like these American giants.”
