Trump rips NY Times for coverage of Iran war

NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
It's worth taking a closer look at President Trump's diatribe against the New York Times.
Journalist Neil MacFarquhar's story is unlike the 500 other stories you've read, which make the same point:
What did the so-called “deal” with Iran – which runs a page and a half – actually accomplish compared to Trump's original war goals?
“Neither war nor deal has eliminated what US and Israeli officials consider to be the greatest threats from Iran. The country's nuclear program, though severely damaged, has not been eliminated – its fate is up to future negotiations.”

“I think it's better that it goes to American farmers than to the terrorist regime in Iran,” said Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen, who has a personal relationship with Trump but has split with him over the issue.
Hey, Republican Senators are saying this out loud.
They are very angry that not only does Trump plan to free up $300 billion in Iranian assets, he has just lifted the oil embargo on the Iranians for 60 days, allowing them to earn up to $10 billion by selling oil on the open market.
By the way, when JD Vance claimed success in the nuclear talks, Iran flatly denied this, with a State Department spokesman saying the theocratic dictatorship was not making “new commitments” involving nuclear weapons testing.
What this underscores is that for all the hatred the Times expresses, it actually craves its approval.
It's the paper he read growing up in Queens and building towers in Manhattan.
The president — who has also threatened to annihilate Iran if the country doesn't behave — disputed a Times article reporting “What Has Changed After Nearly Four Months of War? Commentators Don't Say Much.” Not much?
“Their Army is gone, their Navy is gone, the Air Force is gone, Launching Pads, Missiles, Drones and similar production is almost gone, their top two sets of leaders are gone, their Inflation is 250%, their Economy is broken, their soldiers are underpaid, GUSHING, and the US Stock Market and Jobs are at record highs.
THAT'S WHAT HAS CHANGED, you corrupt and immoral cowards, AND MORE!!”
An hour and a half later, Trump tweeted that the paper was using “FALSE FACTS AND MADE UP 'FACTS'” about the war – which he called “TRASONOUS.”
Treason is a capital offense, with capital punishment.
Trump said he would add that complaint to his lawsuit against the “criminals” who run the Times.

I guess that's where I say The New York Times is not run by criminals. You may strongly disagree with its coverage, it is certainly a liberal paper, and its editorial page says it has lost the war, but they are not crooks.
I could not find public comment for The Times. But last fall, when Trump re-filed his $15 billion lawsuit against the paper, a spokesman said: “This is just an attempt to stifle independent reporting and generate PR attention, but the New York Times will not be deterred by scare tactics.”
At the same time, Trump's Justice Department has withdrawn, at least for now, subpoenas that would compel reporters from the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post to testify before a grand jury in Virginia.
This happened after the media shared with them the closed files.
A Post spokesman called this “a flagrant violation of constitutionally guaranteed freedom of the press” and “another sign of a government seeking to compel journalists to be instrumental in its investigations.”
On the algae side, Trump said yesterday that he will sue ABC for its reporting on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which has been a crime scene and killed several ducks.
Now he is accusing us of vandalism. The president says ABC “failed to report that their close 'friends', Democrats Obama and Biden, spent over 100 Million Dollars on the Reflecting Pool, and it didn't work.”

Doesn't sound like much of a case to me.
Accordingly, the Obama administration spent approximately $35 million on the pool and the project was completed in 2012.
ABC producer and reporter Jonathan Karl ran a segment on the Reflecting Pool, removing a piece of peeling paint to show the deterioration.
So is he going to be persecuted now? That seems over the line.
“We didn't peel it, it was floating there,” Karl said on “Good Morning America.”
The project was done by a non-bid contractor for $15 million, about nine times the original estimate.
But Trump says, “I like their money, which will be given to the US Treasury.” ABC paid $16 million to settle a 2024 defamation lawsuit involving the use of the word “rape.”
Trump's constantly changing positions, which can change by the day or even by the hour, make him a challenge to cover.
Yes, he changes his posture without embarrassment. Of course, the US-Israeli invasion of Iran was a great success.
But it's not hard to report that things are on the rocks as Trump threatens to bomb again – which I don't see happening.
Sometimes Trumpian rhetoric is just for show. After Jon Karl ripped into the machine for one of his questions, Trump called him and quietly said, “We're good.”
Meanwhile, Regime Change, a book published yesterday by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, both New York Times reporters, has caused some criticism in the media.
Days before their scheduled interview, Trump called Haberman a “third-rate journalist.” He described that as a “hip check,” meaning he wanted to put down the marker.
But when he sat down with the two, he was “in a good mood,” the letter said, and began talking to them about the trees he wanted to order. “I know how to buy nice trees, Maple.”
“Also an organized ballroom. And an anecdote about golfer Gary Player.
“We had questions to ask,” Haberman said, and he was answering them a lot. “But we didn't want the interview to be an 'open mic night' where he would just talk for a long time.”

The hour-long session went well – until the end, when the moderator scolded Haberman.
“I'm tired of winning and winning and winning and just being bad f—– press. It's time for you to tell the truth.”
“Usually,” Haberman said on the “Daily Show,” the only person who challenges him forcefully — and not disrespectfully or unfairly — is Kaitlan Collins,” a CNN anchor who covers the White House.

“And he's taking a huge amount of s—, and he's keeping a straight face. But he's got no backup.”
That sounds like a not-so-subtle invitation to some White House writers to defend themselves—and controversy always helps sell books.
