Border boss Tom Homan argued on Tuesday's episode of “The Katie Miller Podcast” that common border security was praised during the previous administration, but demonized by current Democrats.
Podcaster Katie Miller, wife of White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, asked Homan, “Why do you think the American public has moved on to the idea that deportations are a bad thing when 20 years ago even the Democrats were, and you were able to do your job very easily, deporting tons of people without, you know, anybody caring?”
“I think it really has to do with our president and the hatred for this president,” Homan replied. “They didn't want to see this president succeed. And I really believe that because I actually got an award from President Obama for removing the record number of illegal aliens. President Obama gave me an award because we removed 409,000 people that year.”
“What has changed the situation is the misinformation, the hate speech of the media, you know, about the humane policies of the Trump administration,” he continued. “That's why I go out every day and say, 'Wait a minute, cruel?'

“Let's talk about Joe Biden for a minute,” Homan began. “When he opened the border, over 4,000 immigrants died taking that trip. A historic record. A quarter of a million Americans died from fentanyl that crossed the open border. A historic record. Don't talk about humanity. He was killing Americans and aliens in record numbers. President Trump has illegal immigration down 96%. That means less than 96% of people are coming.”
Under the Trump administration, he asked, “How many women are being raped by trolls? How many pounds of fentanyl are they getting out of the country? How many celebrities are suspected terrorists? [aren’t] coming to the country. Securing the border is the most humane thing you can do.”
Miller noted how difficult it is for a working mother to look beyond the propaganda of deportation and see how normal and acceptable this work was in the past.
“You were able to evict these families, remove them together, you were able to deport them, and especially the community saw that as a good thing,” he said. “You had Harry Reid on the Senate floor back in the 1990s saying that birthright citizenship was a crazy idea. Why has society moved so far?”
Homan responded that, among many reasons, “I think the media has moved people far to the left because of their false reporting. I think colleges – I'm talking about my experience with one of my sons – that they've moved people far to the left. Look, I read press releases every day. Ninety-eight percent of them are wrong, right? They're wrong about what we're actually doing.”

He went on to say that the media and various politicians were generally opposed to ICE, to the point that it encouraged violent conflicts.
“But among the media and members of Congress who will spew lies about ICE, if anyone is threatening immigrant communities, it's the members of Congress who are saying, 'ICE are followers, they're Nazis, they're secret police,' and that's why I think some of the recent tragedies have happened,” Homan said.
“People think it's okay not to comply with ICE now, because they hear over and over again that they're not a real law enforcement agency. So you can block, you can disrupt, you don't have to comply with them,” Homan warned. “I said yesterday – I took a lot of hate from the left – the latest shooting, as painful as it was, if they would have accompanied the law enforcement authorities at the traffic stops, maybe they wouldn't have died.”
“I don't see that they deserve to die, but if they would just follow the law, the tragedy could be avoided,” he concluded.
