Three Georgia high school students are dead and one is in critical condition after a Jeep carrying children on spring break veered off a Florida highway and burst into flames, authorities said.
The crash happened Monday on Highway 65 in Franklin County, where officials say a car left the road, crossed into the opposite lane and hit a tree line before bursting into flames.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office first responded to what Sheriff AJ “Tony” Smith described as a “serious traffic accident” that closed the highway for hours.
“Highway 65 is going to be closed for the next six or seven hours – we've had a fatal traffic accident,” Smith said in a video message sent shortly after the incident.
