The former Leeds manager resigned from the club after Crystal Palace expressed interest

Crystal Palace have gained momentum in their search for a new manager, and one of the scouts has resigned from his position.

Palace's season has come to one game.

The South Londoners travel to Leipzig on Wednesday night to face Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final. The biggest game in the club's European history, a chance to add continental silverware to the FA Cup and Community Shield already in the cabinet, and the perfect way to sign off Oliver Glasner's tenure before the Austrian walks out the door.

Who will replace him remains the defining question of Palace's summer.

Andoni Iraola has been a top target for weeks, but the Bournemouth boss has already turned the club down twice and is now attracting serious competition from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Eagles are facing competition for Bournemouth's manager.

Filipe Luis, the 40-year-old former Chelsea and Atlético Madrid defender who won eight trophies in 18 months at Flamengo before his shock sacking in March, has also held talks with Palace officials.

But nothing is guaranteed, and the clock is ticking.

Now, a familiar name has re-entered the picture, and his timing couldn't be better.

Robbie Keane is leaving Ferencvaros after interest from Crystal Palace

Indeed, it has now emerged that former Leeds assistant coach Robbie Keane has stepped down as head coach of Hungarian club Ferencvaros, according to multiple reports in Hungary and now confirmed by talkSPORT.

Ferencvaros manager Robbie Keane

The 45-year-old Irishman leaves after 18 months in charge, having won the Hungarian top-flight title in his first season and guiding the club to victory in the Magyar Kupa this campaign.

He also took Ferencvaros to the round of 16 of the Europa League, where they were knocked out by Braga, and oversaw a team that remained competitive despite losing the domestic title to ETO Gyor.

Palace had Keane on their radar back in February.

GiveMeSport reported at the time that the club considered him a real contender to replace Glasner, with sources close to Keane expecting him to leave Ferencvaros at the end of the season.

Robbie Keane

Keane's managerial record is hard to dispute.

Before Ferencvaros, he won the Israeli Premier League title with Maccabi Tel Aviv in his first coaching role. Two league titles in two countries, a domestic cup, and a Europa League knockout stage appearance in a three-year period represent a CV that demands attention.

Especially a club like Palace, which needs a manager who can compete in Europe, develop young players, and build an identity from the start.

He is not without competition.

Celtic are also keen to bring Keane back to Parkhead, where he scored 12 goals in 16 games on loan in 2010.

Slovan Bratislava have also expressed their interest, but Palace could offer the Premier League, potential European football, and the services of a club on the rise.

Whether Keane ends up at Selhurst Park or Glasgow may depend on which club moves sooner.
