The hosts of the “Pod Save America” podcast talked about the shock of the Democratic Party after the Democratic candidates won their primaries in New York and warned that some of their views went from “disgusting to disgusting.”

Democratic Socialist candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier was one of three supporters of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani who won a landslide victory in New York last week. His history of controversial far-left speeches and policies caused a wave of outrage among Democratic traditionalists, such as strategist James Carville, who said, “There's no sh– I can't be in the same tent” as he proposed a formal split and declared, “And I'm not in that political party.”

Host of “Pod Save America” Jon Favreau, who was Obama's speechwriter, played a clip criticizing Carville, as well as the reaction of other Democrats, then turned to partner Dan Pfeiffer with his thoughts.

“No one should be dismissive of this,” Pfeiffer said of the incumbents who lost seats to the far left.

“I think the thing we need to take away, like what's happening in this country, when progressives are defeating candidates – in Maine's Second District, in the California race where Randy Villegas won, Graham Platner forcing Janet Mills out of the race – like, there's a big warning sign for the Democratic establishment here,” he said. “When the support of people like Schumer or Hakeem Jeffries is certainly not helpful to your campaign. It can be dangerous.”

He went on to suggest, “It's very clear that the groups on the left – the Justice Democrats, the Democratic Socialists of America, Our Revolution – are out organizing, fundraising, working, bypassing traditional party institutions. That's happening. They're taking power. They're getting bigger. They're more strategic. They're more aggressive.”

He said this is a dismissal at many levels of the party and its foundation.

“And if you're a Democrat, you should be very concerned about what this says about where the party is, what the party's position is, what the party's infrastructure is capable of winning the election. So this is a big deal.”

"Pod Save America" co-star Jon Favreau

However, he noted that New York is a very liberal place, and does not fully represent the entire country, and even then, candidates can win in certain districts.

“Actually here, the panic is on Darializa Avila Chevalier. And I'm just going to say that she could be the most left-wing candidate to ever win a Democratic primary in our lifetime,” Favreau suggested.

While he said he may have room to justify old tweets, there are arguments for him that go beyond the pale.

“This is where I have a problem,” Favreau said. “He did not apologize for attending an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023 – a rally denounced by Zohran Mamdani, AOC, and Brad Lander, who left DSA because he promoted that rally – where those present chanted that the opposition to Hamas was due on October 7, the day after they flagged Israel.

“The other problem I have – he sat down for an interview with the New York editorial board last week where he said he was against all the evictions,” he continued. “He's for open borders because, quote, 'Bordering is a modern construct.'

“Borders are in our hearts and in our minds,” Favreau joked, before continuing, “He wants to abolish prisons and he refused to say, when asked – he got four separate opportunities this time – he refused to say that a convicted murderer should be sentenced to any time in prison.”

“Now maybe he's turning over a new leaf in Congress and his voting record doesn't match some of these extreme positions. I hope so. But I think the reason I bring this up is because when the Democrats get questions about this, I think the answer is simple and important to give, which is that he currently holds a series of ideas that go from moronic to disgusting,” said the host. “And not only do those views not resonate with most Democrats in the country — almost every Democrat in the country, every elected Democrat actually, most elected Democratic Socialists — but I don't even think they resonate with the majority of people who are likely to vote for him.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Avila Chevalier's campaign but did not immediately receive a response.
