Surveillance footage shows a man shot Monday by US Secret Service agents near the White House who allegedly pulled a gun and fired at police during an altercation shortly after Vice President JD Vance's motorcade passed through the area.

The suspect, identified as Michael Marx, 45, of Texas, was seen Monday afternoon near 15th Street and Independence Avenue NW, which is about a mile from the White House, when police realized it was a hidden gun.

When the agents approached, Marx ran, then pulled a gun from his waistband as he fled, according to an affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital.

As police chased him down a busy street full of pedestrians, Marx turned and fired at a Secret Service office, the documents said.

Court records show that Marx did not have a gun license in Washington, DC, and had a drug conviction in Florida, making it illegal for him to have a gun.

He was charged with assaulting a public official with a dangerous weapon, using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Quinn said the altercation started when security guards saw what appeared to be a weapon.

“My understanding is that they saw the script,” Quinn said. “These are trained surveillance officers out here who want to look every day for exactly that.”
