Spanish authorities investigating the death of a 20-year-old University of Alabama student who disappeared after spending time with friends during spring break in Barcelona are not currently pursuing criminal charges as officials await final toxicology results following an initial autopsy.
James “Jimmy” Gracey disappeared after a party at the city's popular Shoko nightclub early Tuesday morning.
On Thursday, authorities pulled his body out of the water at the nearest marina 500 meters away.
An initial autopsy indicated that Gracey may have died as a result of an accident and showed no signs of injury to the students prior to her disappearance, according to local police.

“Everything points to an accidental death, although we are not releasing details about how the events took place,” a spokesman for the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan regional police, said earlier.
Given the findings, authorities have chosen not to pursue charges related to Gracey's death, a spokesperson for the Catalan Supreme Court told Fox News Digital.
However, officials added that the investigation is ongoing until a definitive report and toxicology tests are sent to the court – a process that could take up to three weeks.

A completed report will determine whether Gracey was poisoned or drugged before falling into the water, although authorities said foul play is not believed to have contributed to the 20-year-old's death.
Grace's wallet was found full of cash, credit cards and other documents, indicating that she may not have been targeted, a police spokesperson previously confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Police sources have since said that a video showing Gracey walking alone to the port at Port Olimpic before falling into the water was obtained by authorities, in accordance with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

Gracey, a college junior, was visiting Barcelona with friends from the Alabama chapter of Theta Chi fraternity.

The group visited Shoko, a nightclub along the Mediterranean Sea, on Monday, March 16, for drinks and dancing.

The group left around 03:00 on Tuesday, but Gracey stayed behind and was last seen talking to an American woman, according to local reports.

Authorities have not yet confirmed his movements after leaving.

Gracey was reported missing the next morning after her friends woke up and realized she hadn't returned to the group's Airbnb near Ronda de Sant Pere, located about 1.5 miles from the popular resort.

Her cell phone was later found after authorities arrested an unnamed person known to authorities for previous crimes, but officials determined the person was not involved in Gracey's disappearance and instead charged him with “unlawful possession of another person's property.”
On Monday, friends and loved ones flocked to Holy Family Church in Chicago, Illinois for a memorial mass in Gracey's honor.
