Lionel Messi and Argentina face a Swiss side that could force a World Cup draw

We have reached the last match of the World Cup Quarterfinals. It's hard to believe that this is almost over. I really enjoyed watching these games, even if I still feel that soccer could be improved for American viewers. I know, it's not all about us, but there are still some things that make it boring sometimes. However, if there are tense moments, they are like almost any other event imaginable. I think this game will be stronger than the books expect, personally.

In 1996, showing my age here, Madonna had the song “Don't cry for me Argentina”. I think it was part of a movie or something, but I look forward to 30 years later, and I don't think anyone will be crying for this group.

Their last game was marred by questionable calls and what was deemed an illegal result. Argentina looked the worse team for almost 80 of the 90 minutes. The last 10 minutes made a big difference, and I believe Egypt blew it, but obviously there was help from the referee.

EGYPTIAN PLAYERS, COACHES COMPLAINE OF CONTROVERSIAL METHODS IN ARGENTINA: 'RIGGED GAME'

Argentina, despite having perhaps the greatest player of all time in Lionel Messi, have looked inconsistent in the last two games. It struggled to beat Cape Verde, winning 3-2, and as already mentioned, it was not good against Egypt. Maybe you can be optimistic and say that although they looked terrible, they won both games without needing penalties. I guess I can't argue that point, but sometimes you look like you're in danger of losing because you're going to lose.

On the other side of this game is Switzerland. This is not a group that has received attention or attention. They quietly took advantage of their opportunities. There's not much that's glamorous about the team, and there's not much that's exciting about them, either. I think they have a good club, but no star power, and their scoring is limited. That's not a knock; that would just mean they are well integrated instead of one sided.

Getting here was a challenge for the Swiss team. They started with a 1-1 draw with Qatar in their Group Stage opener. After that they destroyed Bosnia-Herzegovina 4-1. They beat Canada to close the Group Stage, and in the Round of 32, they beat Algeria 2-0. Against Colombia in the Round of 16, they played the most boring game of the tournament, drawing 0-0 even after extra time, before eventually winning on penalties.

It's hard to support Switzerland here because I think FIFA wants a title match between France and Argentina. If one of these teams is going to score, it will probably be Argentina. Messi is too good for anyone to completely stop him. He was a bit quiet against Egypt but scored late. I saw this game go under 2.5 goals, though. The Swiss team does not overplay and seems to have a way of making the ball.

I also think the right game is a draw after 90 minutes. Argentina has looked erratic lately. I think we can see another way for the patient. It makes sense that Argentina are still favourites, and perhaps they will come out aggressively to try and prove themselves. I'm taking Switzerland to get the draw at 90 at +255.
