Jason Robertson's Status Is Always Interesting To Follow
Robertson applied for compensation on July 5 before the 5pm deadline. His qualifying gift was $9.3 million. His arraignment is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, at 9 a.m. The goal between player and team was to avoid arbitration. That hearing doesn't go down well on either side, and it leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

However, as Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill said from the start, the goal was to sign Robertson. Nill considers Robertson a big part of the team and an important signing. Although a one-year deal wasn't an ideal option, Robertson was signed and remains in Dallas.
“Jason has been a cornerstone of our franchise since he was drafted in 2017,” Nill said in a press release. “An energetic and talented player, he has been one of the league's top threats since his NHL debut. We are excited for what this season will bring for Jason and the team as we continue our quest to bring a championship to Dallas.”
Jason Robertson's Contract Status Is Really Tricky
The Dallas Stars can continue to discuss an extension with Robertson and his camp. Robertson is now eligible to sign an extension as of January 1st. The noise around this player will decrease from now on; he knows others will push him back again if he isn't signed at the trade deadline.
However, knowing the salary cap number will be important for Nill. It will be easy to give Jason Robertson a higher AAV next season with money off the books like Tyler Seguin and his $9.850 million AAV. But the Stars still have work to do this offseason as they cost $1.36 million over their $105 million salary cap this season.

It is clear that Jason Robertson did not want to leave Dallas. He always believed in the Stars and felt they had a winning organization. If he didn't think he could win in Dallas, he would have gone to take money with the Seattle Kraken, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, and other teams were chasing him. But Robertson didn't want to go to any of those parties; he wanted to live in Dallas.

Robertson led the team in scoring with 96 points (45 goals and 51 assists in 82 regular season games). The 2025–26 season was the third 40-goal season of his career. In six Stanley Cup Playoff games, Robertson had eight points (five goals and three assists). These types of scorers do not grow on trees, and are difficult to replace.
