A former Louisiana mayor convicted of sleeping with his teenage son's friend at a booze-fueled party was called a “scumbag” in court Tuesday by the victim's mother before a judge sentenced the disgraced politician to 90 days in prison.
Misty Roberts, 43, the former mayor of DeRidder, was convicted in March of knowledge of a child and indecency with a child after having sex with a 16-year-old boy during her son's July 2024 birthday party at her home. Prosecutors urged the court to impose a 17-year sentence, saying Roberts failed to accept responsibility for his actions.
“This is not a dumb woman. This is someone who was in charge of the city's budget,” said prosecutor Charles Robinson, according to the New York Post, arguing that Roberts “hasn't reached accountability.”
Instead, Judge D. Kent Savoie sentenced Roberts to 90 days in jail, plus two five-year suspended sentences. He also ordered him to undergo treatment, register as a sex offender and submit to routine drug and alcohol testing.

Before the sentencing, the victim's mother gave a heartbreaking statement accusing Roberts of robbing the child in her care.
“Danger doesn't always seem like danger,” he told the court, according to KPLC-TV. “This predator has hair extensions, high heels, Botox and other augmentation.”

Roberts apologized in court and said “I will blame myself for the rest of my life,” when he told the family of the deceased that he was sorry for the pain and embarrassment they had to endure.

Text messages between Roberts and her teenage son were shown to jurors, with the two discussing what kind of alcohol teenagers wanted at a party.
Additional text messages from the night of the party show Roberts' son calling the situation “crazy” and telling her his little sister was upset.

During the trial, Roberts' daughter told the court that she witnessed her mother and the victim “on top of each other” during the night of the party, KPLC reported.
Roberts' ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, reportedly testified that Roberts agreed to sleep with the boy's child and that the couple's children were holding them captive.
The ex-mayor during the sentencing said he was a “disgrace” in the city, according to reports, he asked others to lie to him about the incident because he was afraid that his ex-husband would not allow him to see his children again.

“I'm just here asking for grace and mercy and the opportunity to do what the Lord has asked me to do, which is to be a mother,” said Roberts.
