Ferran Torres wears a 'Make Spain Great Again' hat at the World Cup parade

Spain's hero in the World Cup finals, Ferran Torres, decided to celebrate the country's victory on Monday with a nod to President Donald Trump.

As tens of thousands of Spaniards welcomed their World Cup-winning team home during a victory parade, Torres, who scored the winner in the 106th minute against Argentina at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, was seen wearing a “Make Spain Great Again” hat – an adaptation of Trump's “Make America Great Again” slogan.

Torres posted a photo with the Spanish faithful while in a car, while wearing a hat and shirtless.

While it may be a coincidence that Torres decided to choose that hat to match his celebration, Trump presented the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodrí and the rest of the team on the field after their victory.

Trump had been hosting a dubious final, which featured Spain, as well as First Lady Melania Trump and FIFA president Gianni Infantino, among others.

The game would have gone to penalties had it not been for Torres' efforts to get past legendary Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, who needed a miraculous save to keep the scoreboard at zero.

But when the head of Nico Williams Jr. was returned to the box following a cross, Torres had a grade-A opportunity to block the ball that landed right on his left foot. He did not disappoint.

“I think that in the end the goal came from 47 million people [the estimated Spain population]not just us who are here,” Torres told FIFA broadcasters after the match, via ESPN. “Today the end is written, we are meant to win. We are far from our people today but we have tried to be as close to them as possible.”

It was the second time Spain reached the World Cup finals, but as they did in 2010, they left with the title and ready to celebrate with the crowd at home.

When the final whistle was blown on Sunday, there was controversy, as arguments broke out on the field between the players of Argentina and Spain, which will be investigated by FIFA.

But at home, especially in Madrid, the capital of Spain, it was a party that started late at night and never stopped.

Torres and the rest of his teammates will be sure to soak up the moment before they all return to their clubs to start their seasons in the coming months.
