NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

Darby Allin made the final defense of the AEW World Championship on Wednesday's double episode of “Dynamite” and “Collision” against “Speedball” Mike Bailey and did so in front of his Double or Nothing opponent, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF).

Allin has been on an incredible run to defend his title since capturing the MJF championship over a month ago. Before the title match against MJF, Allin once again proved why he is one of the best in pro wrestling.

Bailey misses a high flying maneuver allowing Allin to hit the Coffin Drop. But MJF interfered, putting Bailey's foot on the ropes to break the count. Bailey almost got a three count on Allin after a kick, but eventually Allin would survive.

Unfortunately, Willow Nightingale's reign as TBS champion came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night. He announced during “Dynamite.”

“Winning this tournament was one of the best moments of my career and I've had no shortage of great moments in my time in AEW. I've won against Owen before, I won the TBS title before this reign,” he said in a backstage segment. “And I was part of the first AEW women's tag team championships. But to win this from Mercedes (Moné), I knew that if I could do that, I could prove myself, I could show the world that I was everything I believed I could be and that's why I told myself that I would fight every day for any competitor that came up and if I couldn't do that, I didn't deserve to be the TBS champion.

“As it would be, in my last title defense against Red Velvet, I injured my right shoulder and I want so bad, I want so bad to fight Double or Nothing in front of my family, at home in New York, against Alex Windsor. I want to move on from Owen and go All In and become the AEW world champion. But unfortunately, Futhern has to withdraw from the Owen Cup. We are giving up the TBS Championship.”

Nightingale said she was “extremely happy” on the face of TBS during her 10th title defense and vowed to return, although it was not clear when.

Mina Shirakawa is set to face Athena in the first round of Owen's Double or Nothing. Windsor will have a wild card opponent in the tournament.

Will Ospreay made a statement before Double or Nothing

Will Ospreay appeared in the “Collision” segment of Wednesday night's special, taking on Katsuyori Shibata – a member of The Opps. It was a tune-up match before Ospreay faced Opps partner Samoa Joe in the first round of the Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament.

Ospreay has been very dangerous since training with The Death Riders in recent weeks, showing his toughness last week against Ace Austin. It was the same with Shibata. His aerial styles and hard hits proved to be too much for Shibata in the end. He hit Shibata with a Styles Clash and Hidden Blade, pinning Shibata for the win.

Joe spoke to Ospreay after the match, saying “you're going to put your a– to sleep.”

Ospreay responded, describing his own “nightmare” where he met some of his doubters. He said he received messages for years about how Joe was “going to kill” him and wondered how that would happen if he “just died in this ring.”

“This year, the number is high because the winner of the Owen Hart Cup goes on to face whoever will be the world champion in the biggest stadium in my country. It's a stadium where every child in the school I wanted to be in and I have the opportunity to fulfill the dream of my country and I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream because it's not just a company on my back, I got the whole country on my back.

“My nightmare Joe, my nightmare died and it was at the hands of these men (The Death Riders) and Marina (Shafir). They killed my elders and they rebuilt me. They rebuilt me into a killer, I became a killer, into what I was all this time.”

He said on Sunday at Double or Nothing that he started his way to win the AEW World Championship.
