Caitlin Clark breaks WNBA record as Fever upsets defending champion Aces in Las Vegas

If the Las Vegas Aces thought Saturday night's 48-point demolition of the Phoenix Mercury meant another easy win was coming, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever had other plans.

Clark reached another milestone along the way, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to record 600 career assists, doing it in just 72 games.

The Fever marched into Vegas and embarrassed the defending champions, pulling out a stunning 109-75 victory. The highlights were Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson – the WNBA's biggest draw against its dominant power.

Wilson still finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, but Indiana made sure those numbers came in a losing effort.

Rather than allow Las Vegas to settle into the offensive court game it thrives on, the Fever turned the afternoon into a rallying cry, shooting 56% from the field and burying 15 three-pointers.

Clark didn't need any of his signature burst, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists as Indiana's limited offense overwhelmed Las Vegas.

All of the Aces' comeback hits came from Kelsey Mitchell. The Fever guard exploded for a game-high 27 points, blocking big shot after big shot to keep Las Vegas at arm's length. Aliyah Boston added a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double, giving Wilson plenty to deal with inside.

Then there's the sizzling Sophie Cunningham.

The Fever guard, who walked into the Octagon at UFC 329 less than 24 hours earlier, caught fire with 20 points while sinking six of his seven attempts from beyond the arc.

To put that performance into perspective, Cunningham made three more solo shots than the rest of the Aces, who finished 4-of-17 from deep.

The Fever won all four quarters and slammed the door with a 29-11 fourth, leaving the Las Vegas crowd empty-handed. For the Aces, there was a spectacular collapse in their place against a Fever team that looked better in the week.
