Lindy Li, a former top Democratic fundraiser, believes President Joe Biden is doing himself a disservice by promising the public another explanation for why he decided to run for re-election in 2024 despite growing concerns about his age and mental health.

In his view, Biden's upcoming memoir, “Promise Me, America,” will only serve to open the painful wounds that Democrats have struggled to overcome since losing the 2024 election. In a way, he believes the book is part of a microcosm of Biden's presidency.

“They think, 'Why can't you shut the f— up?' Before I left the team, they wanted nothing to do with this guy. It was so bad that when, finally, Biden left on July 21, there was no farewell party except for the Rose Garden staff. There was nothing,” said Li.

“Jill made him write books that no one wants to read instead of fully enjoying his retirement,” Li said, referring to Jill Biden, the former first lady.

“Like he got him out of the presidency — a presidency that no one wanted, not even the Democrats — instead of him enjoying retirement. He should have been retired 10, 20 years ago, but they need the money.”

Biden explained his upcoming book in a post on X Wednesday morning.

“It's about the challenges we face as a nation. About the decisions I made and why I made them,” said Biden mockingly on social media. “It's about why I chose to run for re-election and why I chose to withdraw.”

“Joe Biden's first book launch lie: 'I wrote a book,'” Conservative Communicator Steve Guest he wrote.

“Joe Biden couldn't sign his pardon. Now he 'wrote' a letter, Democrats forced him to release it after the midterms so he wouldn't be in the headlines to remind people how bad he was,” wrote the Outkick founder. Clay Travis. “Who on earth buys this book?”

“We wonder who wrote the letter,” the editor-in-chief of the Daily Wire Brent Scher he asked himself.

“Does autopen write this too,” Missouri Republican Rep. Jason Smith asked.

Li, who is publishing his new book, “Unburdened,” later this year, has been privy to many of the party's internal discussions, research and behind-the-scenes panics, which show that Biden enjoyed shaky support even among his own camp long before he dropped out of the 2024 election.

Because of what he knows, Li doubts there is a way for Biden to investigate his exit that won't further damage his image, an image his campaign has gone to great lengths to protect.

Li recalled how the Biden campaign took away the phone from him at the 2023 event.

“I [Democratic National Committee] he used to confiscate the phones of top donors by following social media,” Li said, referring to the fundraising team and the campaign.

“They took my phone away because they knew I was a cheap tweeter. And I posted something on Instagram that night, and the DNC finance director called me around 10 or 11 that night to order me to delete everything on Instagram about Biden that I posted that day.

“The reason is because [Biden] appearing weak. He seemed weak.”

Now on the other side of his presidency, Li believes he will boost Democrats' bid to pass the 2024 election and rule out questions about why Biden was not asked to step down.

“It is clear that they were trying to hide the fact that instead of having someone they can be proud of, they were busy hiding someone they were very disappointed with,” he added.
