MLB researcher Sarah Langs relayed the history two players made.

He wrote in X that it was the fourth time in MLB history that two players, who won multiple MVPs during a game, hit at least two home runs each. He added that Judge and Trout joined Roy Campanell and Stan Musial, who did it in June 1956, and Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, who did it twice in July 1962.

It was the second time the two MVPs have already been hit twice in the same game, according to STATS Perform.

Judge hit his first home run in the first inning for Angels pitcher Yusei Kikuchi. His second home run came in the sixth inning off Shaun Anderson. He finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He has six home runs on the year.

Trout's first dinger didn't come until the sixth inning – off Yankees reliever Jake Bird. The second came in eighth place for Camilo Doval. An eighth inning dinger put the Angels up 10-8 at the time.

New York came back in the ninth when Trent Grisham hit a two-run home run to tie the game. Jose Caballero later scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.

Trout and Judge were both surprised by their success after the game.

“It was great. That's your baseball,” Trout said. “That's what the fans want, and to be able to see something like that, it's great.”

Judge joked that he was going to throw Trout out when he hit a one-game warning early in the game, but he couldn't say anything after Trout hit two homers later.

“I was going to talk to him about the slap after that one he hit all the way to the warning song,” Judge said, “but I didn't get a chance and he hit him with two big homers. He put the guy in a big situation, a big moment and he's going to show up every time, so it's nice to go back and forth with a guy like that, especially in New York.”

Judge had a lot of praise for Trout, who has been at the forefront of baseball since he entered the league, even though he has dealt with injuries most of the time.

“He's the greatest. It's been fun watching his whole career, coming up at a young age and quickly putting himself at the top of the list. It's special,” said Judge.
