Vince Vaughn's Raunchy, New R-Rated Sci-Fi Comedy Is Genre Perfection

Written by Robert Scucci | Published

My distance with Vince Vaughn varies from film to film, and it's because for a while he had what I would call an identity crisis. At first, he played the same manic, cynical slacker in the same movies old school (2003) and You're a chump (2004). He's never been a one-trick pony, either, with his dramatic roles like those of 2017. Brawl in Cell Block 99 they are more than solid. I actually really enjoyed his portrayal of Norman Bates in 1998 Psycho remake, although I know I'm still a bit out there. Along the way, he tried the neo-noir route with his role in The Truth Detective Season 2 (2015), which felt like he was cast in the wrong role because it was too dependent, but still showed his signature.

When I discovered his latest effort on Hulu, Mike & Nick & Nick & AliceI honestly didn't know which Vince Vaughn version I was going to get, and it turns out it's both. Vince Vaughn is serious as a heart disease, but he's crazier than ever, and he's always determined to deliver a one-liner that's a product you can't help but love. It's a sci-fi action comedy based on time travel, which is new territory for him, and his on-screen chemistry with James Marsden and Eiza Gonzalez makes for a solid watch as the gang tries to play it straight, but can't help but admit to the ridiculous situation they're in.

A Double Trouble

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice 2026

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice it begins with one Nick (Vince Vaughn), who is seen in a store chatting with his longtime partner in crime, Quick Draw Mike (James Marsden). They attend Jimmy Boy's (Jimmy Tatro) party, thrown by his adoptive father, Sosa (Keith David). Sosa celebrates Jimmy Boy's release from prison after serving a six-year sentence, but also makes it clear that he knows there is a rat among his crew, and that the rat will be killed soon.

Mike, who wants to settle down and leave a life of crime behind, is asked by Nick to do one last mission that is very important to him, which involves taking out an unsuspecting victim with chloroform. To Mike's shock and confusion, the man he is tasked with taking out turns out to be Nick's identical twin. As it turns out, Mike is actually helping a version of Nick from the next six months, and present-day Nick may have told Sosa that Mike was a rat, and needs to be stopped from doing so.

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice 2026

Sound confusing? Buckle up, because it's getting even crazier. Future Nick explains to Mike that when he was collecting a loan from a scientist named Symon (Ben Schwartz), he found a time machine and installed it. On his way out, he accidentally killed a scientist and burned down the lab, meaning no reset. What Nick makes known, is that the serial killer known only as The Barron (Dolph Lundgren) has taken it out on Mike. He also admits that he regrets lying to Sosa about Mike, and that he became angry after hearing about his affair with his wife Alice.

Unfortunately future Nick, who wants to fix everything, can't trust past Nick, who is still full of salt in the case and furious about being chloroformed, kidnapped and shot. Everyone's opinions differ on which boyfriend was best for Rory Gilmore Girlshowever, that's what really shows their true colors before they decide they need to find the real rat that put Jimmy Boy behind bars before The Barron puts his stuff on the wrong target.

A Complete Blast From Start To Finish

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice 2026

The best part about Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice how careless he is. The rules of time travel are simple enough and take a backseat to today's travel. Vince Vaughn to play with Vince Vaughn works because the future version is older and wiser, while the other version, who doesn't know what his future holds, still operates on obsession and shortsightedness. Both Nicks wear different outfits, giving viewers a neat visual cue to keep track of which timeline they're from, and the third game transitions into a straight line. John Wick place, with clever satire.

Most importantly, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice hits Vince Vaughn's sweet spot. Sometimes you see him as tough and tough, but no matter which version of Nick he plays, he's just as sarcastic and sarcastic as ever. Even though he's trying to do good for his teammates by going back to save his life, he's still bitter about the matter, and makes it known whenever the opportunity arises. Furthermore, whenever Nick tries to double-cross another Nick, it doesn't go as planned, making things worse for everyone involved.

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice 2026

Hulu may not be leading in original content like Netflix, but if it continues to release movies it will Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice with any kind of consistency, they can begin to close that gap. It's original, explosive, and has just the right amount of snark to carry during its run. It doesn't matter if you prefer Vince Vaughn's lighter or more serious roles, because he pulls off both here, and it's fun to watch.
