Justin Berfield Recalls 20-Year Acting Break Before Malcolm

Justin Berfield reflected on his decision to retire from acting – and returned after 20 years to perform Malcolm in the Middle revival.

“I wanted to change because I started acting when I was 5. Luckily, I worked a little bit, and then I got to Malcolm in the Middle, which was seven years,” Berfield, 40, who reprises his role as Reese in the now four-part revival, told exclusively. Us Weekly. “I grew up working all the time, and I wanted to try something different.”

Berfield eventually chose to turn to acting in the background, adding, “I started producing some projects, and I wanted to travel a lot and explore. Then I got married and had a couple of kids and then time went by. It's been 20 years now, and we're lucky to be able to go back to it now.”

The actor is happy to be back in time to share his work with his children.

“It was really good to show my oldest daughter just me working so she can see that it's better than just turning on the TV and showing them something,” Berfield, who shares two children with his wife. Liza Almeidahe said. “Actually, you saw me sitting.”

“I was under a little pressure that it wouldn't be good because he wouldn't do something that he didn't feel was so great.
