Offset is being sued by a Detroit casino for allegedly not paying his $100K tab days after the Florida shooting.
According to documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday, April 8, the rapper (real name Kiari Kendrell Cephus) is being sued by MotorCity Casino Hotel for breach of contract, fraud and more. The casino says Offset has opened a $100K line of credit with a March 2024 launch.
The casino's lawsuit said they couldn't reach Offset to pay the alleged debt, so they tried to withdraw money from the artist's account directly — an alleged deal made when Offset opened a line of credit. The casino suspected that there were not enough funds in the Offset account to pay the bill.
In a statement to Us Weeklyan Offset rep shared, “We're working on a resolution.”
Two days before the MotorCity Casino lawsuit was filed, news broke that Offset had been shot near the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
“We can confirm that Offset was shot and is currently in the hospital receiving medical attention,” said the rapper's spokesperson in a statement on Monday, April 6. “He is stable and being monitored closely.”
Seminole County, Florida, police said Page Six that no injured people were found during the shooting. (Prior to the shooting Offset was reportedly hanging out with fans at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and showed no signs of trouble.)
“We are aware of an incident that took place in a car lot after seven o'clock on Monday evening outside Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood which resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to a person who was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood,” said a police spokesperson at the store. “Seminole Police were on the scene immediately, the situation was quickly defused. Two people were arrested by police. The investigation is ongoing. The area is secure and there is no threat to the public. Operations are continuing as normal.”
Offset is best known for being a member of the rap group Migos, which he also co-founded Quavo again Go away who was Offset's cousin. In November 2022, Takeoff was killed in a shooting in Houston, Texas. He was 28 years old. Offset and Quavo disbanded Migos a year later.
“Things on the business side don't suit me. I have kids and a family,” Offset said of the decision to end Migos during an October 2025 appearance on the “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast. “I'm getting older and smarter, I'm paying more attention to my money and my finances. I felt I wanted a big piece, not a small one.” [Quavo and Takeoff] but for business.”
This rapper has also made headlines in recent years for his relationship with her Cardi B. The pair, who share daughter Kulture, 7, son Wave, 4, and daughter Blossom, 19 months, were married from 2017 to 2024.
