Democratic Governor Andy Beshear has stepped up his pressure campaign against Sen. Mitch McConnell on Saturday, calling for the longtime Republican senator from the Bluegrass State to reveal his undisclosed medical condition as questions arose about the 84-year-old's fitness.

In a post on X, Beshear linked his latest push for the attorney's transparency to past national debates, writing: “I have publicly and privately urged the last administration to address public concerns about the health of the former president. I am asking Sen. McConnell to do the same and give voters an update on his health.”

Beshear ended the post by urging McConnell to “stop the crazy speculation” and “just tell us what's going on.”

The governor's public comments follow an official letter he sent to McConnell on Wednesday requesting a full health review on behalf of members who are “deeply concerned” about the senator's well-being and “ability to hold office in the United States Senate.”

Beshear said public office managers have a responsibility to represent members with “clear communication about a person's ability to serve.”

McConnell was absent from the Senate for three weeks and was initially hospitalized in early June for an undisclosed condition.

His office declined to release specific details or a timeline for his return, although a leaked audio of a June 14 emergency call revealed that he was found unconscious at his home and may have suffered a heart attack.

McConnell's wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, traveled to China shortly after he was hospitalized, with her office saying her condition “does not allow for her immediate return to the US.”
