Jennifer Gray's mother has died at the age of 94 after being diagnosed with cancer
Jennifer Gray announced that his mother, Jo WilderHe died at the age of 94 on Saturday, July 4.
In an emotional Instagram tribute shared on Wednesday, July 8, Gray, 66, wrote that Wilder died “by choice, on his own terms, as he lived,” one week after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
“Truthfully who he was, he chose kindness over fear, understanding that leaving this world with dignity is an honor, not a tragedy,” continued Gray. “She was beautiful and talented – a promising young actress on the New York stage in her youth. She often said she didn't fully answer that call; she became a mother instead.”
Wilder shared children with Jennifer once James Katz and ex-husband Joel Gray.
“If he had chosen ambition over me and my brother, we wouldn't have the mother we had,” Jennifer captioned. “His love found other ways: he was an activist all his life, with a clear understanding of right and wrong. And for many years, many people discovered his amazing eye through Wilder Place, his shop in Melrose.”
I Dirty Dancing the star concluded, “You were brave and deep. I love you, Mom. Thank you for showing me how to do everything, even this, with grace.”
Wilder was a singer and actress, known for her role as Polly in The Threepenny Opera national tour, which took place in 1960. Wilder also took part on stage Peter Pan again Gypsy during his time as a regional theater actor.
Several stars took to the comments section of Jennifer's post to share their condolences.
“I've been thinking a lot. I'm lucky to have known your beautiful mother through the years of our friendship,” Maggie Wheelerknown for her role as Janice on Friendshe wrote. “He was fierce and kind and curious .. and .. he was deeply blessed with a daughter who showed him unwavering love. [and] unwavering support.”
Julianne Moore again Josh Gadi they were among other prominent names they fell in love with. Rachel Zegler he also commented with a red heart emoji.
“I am so sorry for your loss,” Moore wrote. Gadi added, “Sending you lots of love.”
Lea Thompson also remembered Jennifer's mom, writing, “A beautiful gift. I love you so much. Your mom was the best.”
Jennifer's ex-husband, Clark Greggcomment with three red heart emojis. They were married for 19 years before finalizing their divorce in February 2021. The exes have a daughter Stella, 24.
