Woman Suspected of Locking Man, 91, in His Car During Heat Wave

A Kentucky woman has been arrested after she allegedly left a 91-year-old man locked in his car in the heat after she refused to “buy him cigarettes.”

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office announced on Facebook that Nikki Reed Hoskins He was arrested on Thursday, July 2, around 1:16 pm near his home.

Hoskins, 37, was arrested after allegedly taking the keys to a 91-year-old man's car and leaving it “idle on the road with him in it,” according to the Laurel County Sheriff. John Root.

Deputies found the man who told them that Hoskins left him on the side of the road because he “wouldn't buy him cigarettes.” Authorities added in the post that the temperature reading was 101 degrees when the man was found.

It is not yet clear how Hoskins knew the old man and why they were traveling together in the car before he abandoned it.

After Hoskins left her in the car, she allegedly went back to her house. Authorities learned of the incident when a passerby called 911 to report seeing an elderly man in a car.

When authorities spoke to the man, they went to Hoskins' place and asked him to leave. However, he refused to enter the house and the police had to force their way into the house.

“They entered the house where they found him hiding in the bedroom, and when he was arrested, he beat Deputy McVey before being taken into custody,” the post said.

Deputies said Hoskins was “unsteady on his feet” when he was found, while he had “slurred speech and glassy, ​​bloodshot eyes and appeared to be under the influence.”

Hoskins was eventually charged with reckless endangerment, theft by unlawful taking, third-degree assault on a police officer and harassment, according to the sheriff's office.

Police also said Hoskins has been issued warrants to appear in Laurel District Bench for failing to appear in court for various reasons. Other warrants include incidents related to child support and public intoxication and contempt of court.

It is not yet clear whether Hoskins has entered a plea or retained an attorney after his arrest. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office had no updates to share when contacted by Us about the case.
