How the Bear Series Finale Paid Posthumous Posthumous Payment to Rob Reiner
After writing around Rob Reinerconspicuous absence, BovaThe series finale found a way to honor the late actor.
The finale, which premiered on Thursday, June 25, acknowledged Reiner's character Albert Schnurr with Ebra (Edwin Lee Gibson). After calling Albert for advice all season, Ebra contacted him to share the good news.
“Albert, we are in business,” said Ebra on the phone. “Perfect. I'll have all the documents, I'll email you right away. Is there anything else I can do?”
Albert was not heard on the other end but Ebra answered, “As you wish.” The line was an obvious nod Cary Elwes' line from the 1987 film The Princess Bridewhich was directed by Reiner. While Albert was out for the season, Ebra's story seems to indicate that Reiner was expected to have a bigger role before his death.
News broke in December 2025 that Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reinerthey were found dead in what appeared to be a murder. Their son. Nick was arrested and held without bail for murder. Rob and Michele's other children – son Jake and daughter Romy – have since broken their silence over the couple's tragic death and the arrest of their brother Nick. (Rob also shares a daughter Tracy with his late ex-wife Penny Marshall.)
“Words cannot even describe the unimaginable pain we feel every moment of the day. The terrible and tragic loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something no one should have to feel,” their January statement read. They were not only our parents, they were our best friends.”
The statement continued: “We are so grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness and support we have received not only from family and friends but from people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, so that the speculation is influenced by compassion and humanity and that our parents are remembered for the wonderful life they lived and the love they gave.”
Rob Reiner's family has always been synonymous with showbiz. The director of The Princess Bride and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on Sunday, December 14. Rob is survived by four children. Nick was eventually charged with two counts of murder and pleaded not guilty in February. The producer will next appear in court in September.
In April, Jake recalled the moment he heard about Rob and Michele's death and called his mom and dad “the center” of his life.
“A week from today, I will be approaching my first birthday without my parents,” he wrote on Instagram. “I feel lucky to have been with them for the last 34 years. In the last four months, I've learned a lot about grief. I want to thank @iamdavidkessler, who played a huge role in managing the horrors of this process, and my family and friends.”
Jake concluded: “For anyone going through any kind of grief and loss, I can see it.”
