Criminal Minds' Paget Brewster Apologizes for Criticizing Show

Criminal Minds star Paget Brewster issued an apology after receiving criticism for publicly criticizing the show's critic.

“Hey guys, I was disrespectful to Shealyn Scott last night and I'm very sorry for it. I'm ashamed to insult someone for doing their job. I'm sorry Shealyn,” Brewster, 57, wrote on X on Sunday, June 21. “And I'm sorry to my followers that you saw me behaving like that.

The actor first shocked social media users when he took to X on Saturday, June 20, to announce an article Scott wrote for ScreenRant.

“Hey critic Shealynn Scott. You're young. You have no idea bad pictures and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs,” Brewster wrote in a post that has since been deleted. “Sell grapes. Work in a shelter. Do something better than what you're doing now. Because right now you're a mess.”

My fellow journalists and Criminal Minds fans came to Scott's defense, many pointing out that the article praised the show despite Brewster saying it was a bad review.

Scott, meanwhile, clarified on social media that he received a private apology from Brewster following the television star's public message.

Brewster is leading right now Criminal Minds in the role of Emily Prentiss, which she has played since 2006.

Earlier this year, Brewster recalled his brief exit from the game. (Emily was first killed off in season 7 before it was revealed that she was an impostor. Brewster, however, was absent from the show for two seasons, returning as a guest star for two more before becoming a main character again in season 12.)

During an April episode of the “Are You Charlotte” podcast, Brewster said that a pilot behind the scenes of a potential show filmed before the former CBS president. Les Moonves he dismissed the idea. According to Brewster, he decided to leave the show after season 7 because he was “too mad” at CBS despite being offered to keep his role full-time.

“I've held onto that anger for too long,” he shared on the podcast. “It was an unhealthy thing to hold on to. Because AJ and I were like, 'We were fast, we knew our lines, we didn't fight.' We were really angry. I held onto my anger for a long time, and after four years, I finally thought, 'Why not do it [on the show]? I love everyone there. I just don't like Les Moonves, and I've never seen him because he doesn't care about this show.'”

Brewster ended up returning for season 12 after that Thomas Gibsonhe goes out. She said she has to fight so that her “fee per episode is close to what men make” because she and other women “were always underpaid.”

“I was like, 'Well, I ate them in a barrel. So, I got my money per episode going up a lot more than it was,'” he continued. “When some of the female actors, their contracts were up, I said, 'This is what I got. Go get something else.' So, they come in and get great benefits. “
