If you're a sitcom fan of a certain age, you probably spent your formative years sitting in front of a glowing television set, watching Tim Allen growl and yell about tools being turned on. Home Improvement. For years now fans have been asking for a Home Improvement a reunion of sorts, as almost every other show from that era has been rebooted, remade, or pressed dry in a legacy sequence. Unfortunately, it looks like a Home Improvement A reunion won't be on the cards for the foreseeable future, according to Tim Allen himself.
According to a recent report by Variety, instrumental Tim blames his fictional children for reading these works, saying they have severe “personality issues” that keep them from reuniting. Specifically, the Play story 5 star says the ABC network “continues to talk about how to move forward, but they are stuck [because] there are character issues right now with guys.” When asked about his vision of what could happen Home Improvement Of the reunion, Allen explained “I always thought it would be great if it was a story about them.
The New Family Dynamic

Allen's comments seem to refer to a series of arrests and other headline-grabbing moments from his younger customers. Most notably, Zachery Ty Bryan, who portrayed Tim Taylor's son Brad in the original series, has had numerous run-ins with the law. Starred Home Improvement from the ages of nine to 17, it's easy to see how a young actor might fall victim to the same problems that plague many child stars.
Bryan was arrested in 2025 for second-degree violence, after previous arrests for assault, robbery and domestic violence in previous years. Although these cases are very shocking, we must point out that Tim Allen is not exactly a shining example of good and legal behavior. The Buzz Lightyear voice actor has faced a number of controversies over the years, including accusations of misconduct, allegations of creating a hostile work environment, and arrests for drug trafficking and drunken driving.
Don't Hold Your Breath

None of this is to say that Allen or his costars are off the hook Home Improvement on the way back. However, it should be noted that production has more to deal with than simple “personality problems”. In fact, even if Allen and his TV kids were officially on good terms, there's a good chance a reunion wouldn't happen. Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who portrayed Randy in the series, is no longer interested in acting, and has not appeared on screen for over a decade.
Of course, ABC can take a page from Malcolm in the Middle reboot by recasting Randy, but that would conflict with Tim Allen's idea of the series focusing on the Taylor boys all grown up. As it stands now, it seems that a Home Improvement reboots are less likely to be done today than ever before. Perhaps we can hope for a special 40-year reunion in 2031, but even that seems unlikely.
