Bryan Kohberger's Victims Felt 'High Levels of Pain' Before Death

Medical examiner Dr. Veena Singh it is reported that he planned to testify that three of Bryan KohbergerThe victims were subjected to an increasing level of pain before their execution.

According to court documents obtained by People on Friday, June 5, Singh found out Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle again Madison Mogen “endured a high degree of pain and/or suffering prior to their death as a result of the injury.”

A medical professional found that out too Ethan Chapin “he had significant pain and/or suffering prior to his death as a result of the injuries he sustained but to a lesser degree than other bodies.”

Autopsy reports revealed that Goncalves, Mogen and Chapin were seriously injured while lying on the bed, in the exit area. Kernodle, who was not sleeping when he died, took revenge on his killer as he was stabbed 67 times.

Chapin, Kernodle, Mogen and Goncalves were found dead in their shared home in Moscow, Idaho on November 13, 2022. There were two survivors: Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke. Weeks later, Kohberger, 31, was arrested in connection with their deaths at his parent's home in Pennsylvania.

Singh ultimately did not testify in the case because of Kohberger's plea deal. In July 2025, Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of burglary. This arrangement allowed Kohberger to avoid the death penalty and he was not required to disclose the details of the murder.

Kohberger was eventually sentenced to four consecutive life sentences without parole, and ten years for burglary. He has been incarcerated at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, Idaho, since July 2025.

Goncalves' parents are still trying to wrap their minds around what happened to their daughter and have unanswered questions about Kohberger.

Please, please, don't you think our family has gone through enough?'” Kaylee's mother, Kristi Goncalveshe told u Daily Mail in an interview published on Thursday, June 4. “Don't you think what you did to our daughter – when we found out that you stabbed her 38 times with a KaBar military model knife, 24 times on her face, on her head, 11 times on her chest and neck, and three self-defense wounds when she was sitting on that bed, and she fought for her life and for my mother? Please tell me why?”

Kaylee's father, Steve Goncalveshe also wants an explanation.

“That's all you had to do. Explain to us how that happened and what other weapon you used,” Steve told the outlet.
