The Museum of Modern Art became the hottest club in Midtown for one night this past Tuesday (June 2), as Rebecca Black again Tinashe performed back-to-back DJ sets during the museum's annual Garden Party. Most of the assembled guests enthusiastically embraced the theme, donning a variety of floral looks to dance in MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden.
That's right, we're talking about the much-anticipated party. Earlier in the evening, the museum hosted a dinner honoring the artists Betye Saar again Martin Puryearand philanthropist Jo Carole Lauder. They were entertained by various VIPs from the art world and beyond, including billionaire philanthropists Mimi Haas and Michael Bloomberg; entrepreneur and philanthropist David Rockefeller Jr.; sponsors Marlene Hess, Sarah Arison again Alice Tisch; the collector Ronald Lauder; and the former chairman of Sustu Jamie Niven. They rubbed elbows with curators Yvonne Force Villareal, Anthony Sargent and the Studio Museum in Harlem's Thelma Goldenamong others. Many artists were also seen, from Rashid Johnson again Hank Willis Thomas to Carrie Mae Weems, Tyler Mitchell again Glenn Ligon.
As the night progressed, the atmosphere changed from a refined sit-down affair to a full-on party, complete with Highland Garden's signature cocktail and cotton candy machine. Among those who enjoyed the fun was an actor Harvey Guillenwho spent time chatting with his The Rocky Horror Show star Josh Andrés Riverarelaxing away from their eight-show-a-week schedule. Also on the party's guest list were actors Chris Rock, Nell Verlaque again Frances Turner; reality stars Kenny Martin again Whitney Fransway; and internet people Corrado Martini, Shannon Beveridge again Tefi Pessoa.
It may not have been Friday, but Black made it look like the weekend had arrived with his epic late night set featuring a mix of songs by. The PinkPantress, The Gorillaz and more. Finally he passed the booth to Tinashe, who kept her energy intact until the after-party phone call at midnight.
